BT Fiberoptic

Just be aware the BT will only ever let you upgrade - and not go back. I pay for Infinity 2 but only get 18mb. Can I downgrade to Infinity 1 - can I f**k. I'd start off with 1 and see what speed you get.

Well, Plusnet have just pleased me again.....

They are sending me a new router (a re-branded BT home hub which apparently is a top piece of kit for the average consumer rather than a techie), they've upped my speed to just under 50meg and have knocked £7.50 pm off my £17.50 broadband bill as I've transferred my phone to them on an 18m contract - £2 less than BT for the same package.

My monthly outlay is now £26.99 compared to £36.50 so I'm better off and have a better service and kit. Result.

I live out in the sticks & I've got fibre to the premises from BT. Took 2 years of laying cables & installing new telegraph poles but they got there in the end max speed offered up to 200mb. I chose 37mb which they have just upgraded to 50mb & 10mb upload. Before this only had 1mb down telephone line.
I'm 3 miles from our box. How did you get them to do that for you?

Is there a way of checking if you can get fibre to the home, as I said in an earlier post the new green box is in our street so it's not a massive stretch.

Easiest way to see if you can get Fibre To The Home, otherwise known as Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) is to stick your landline number into the BT DSL Checker page: https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

You need to look for availability of something called WBC FTTP, if that's available to you then great news you are able to take an FTTP package from BT with speeds of up to 330mbs :thumb

Read 'em and weep. Looks like I live well away from the 21st Century:rolleyes:

That list must not be complete as my exchange is not listed and I am definitely operating from an FTTP connection

I have FTTP on demand instead of WBC FTTP?

FTTPoD is unfortunately no longer supported / an option. It was dumped by Openreach a short while back, I think mainly due to it's ludicrously high installation and operating costs which made it somewhat unpopular

or maybe not the latest, it came from the IT admin at work. But I spoke to BT Openreach who confirmed our local exchange (Wilton) does not have this facility yet nor could they give an indication when or even if.

I'm saying nowt, don't want them to take it away as I'm not on the list either.
