Anyone got any made-to-measure leathers from BTK in Notts?

What do you think of the product, the company, any probs.................

Thanks all.

Yep,

bought salopettes & jacket about 2 1/2yrs ago. Good fit & they were ready when they said they'd be. Had the salopettes converted to jeans last year - they survived my get-off last December (30 mph) with a little light scuffing. Recommended.

Thanks for reply Mike, another question:

Did you send BTK your measurements or did you visit the shop and let them measure you?

Regards

Tim

Yep

I got mine 3 years ago, and there used every day and still as good as new (I do treat them with Renapure leather balsam every 6 months or so).

I used their measuring chart and sent it in to them, they got back to me on the phone to clear some finer points and three weeks or so the gear arrived. perfect fit.

Tim,

I actually visited the shop, because I was travelling up that way anyhow. They mailed the kit to me in about 3-4 weeks, as I recall.....

Mike:)

ps I can also recommend Renapur!

I have had a pair of BTK leather trousers for a couple of years now.I visited the shop, got measured up and a couple of weeks later they were ready. The trousers are pretty heavy compared to anything I have had in the past but I did go for as much armour and double layers of leather as I could. The armour is similar to Hein Gericke hiprotec rubbery stuff,so is comfortable to use.A quick wipe over with Renapur stuff a couple of times a year and they look like new. They also altered my leather jacket to take armour rather than the foam padding that was in it.Overall recommended,I may even get a jacket at some point.

Cheers Dave

If anyone's interested, John says he's shutting up shop for good, which is a real shame :tears

There seem to be very few good motorcycle leather workshops left, and BTK was one of the good ones (although bloody slow at times) :thumb2

That's a damn shame. I've had a pair of BTK leather jeans more or less since I started biking in 1993, and they're still the only leathers I own and wear. I must have ridden at least a couple of hundred thousand miles in them. Excellent kit.

Are BTK still going?

Just joined the forum to find out more about BTK Leathers
Spoke to John back in August to chase him up on an order for a new jacket and trousers that I placed in June.
Tried again today (29 Sept 2011) and the phone is cut off and the web site is down.
Has he closed the business?
If anybody knows I'd appreciate it.
I'm concerned!!!!
Thanks

John has closed up the shop, and retired apparently...

I often try his mobile number, but it's rarely answered.

I have a repair job that I want to collect, here's hoping!

I was thinking of treating myself to some jeans from them - how long before he will shut up for good as I'm not that far from Notts.

You could always try Crowtree Leathers in Louth Lincs on 01507 602099 they are still making leathers although on a much smaller scale now. I'm going to get mine altered soon by them. Not open this afternoon btw.

Not looking good is it. :(

Happy New year all.
Since my last message on the forum in September I have been trying to get hold of John Richardson from BTK Leathers with no luck.
I wouldn't normally bother so much however he does appear to have closed the business and disappeared with my full payment and a load of fabric patches.
If anybody does have a mobile number or any other information I'd appreciate it as he owes me a full refund and return of my patches.
As you can imagine...I am not happy!!!
Thanks in advance and thank you for your responses so far.

That is a great shame - John has made me 2 suits over the years and a few alterations/repairs. Never managed to do anything on time but work was always good.

Will have a drive past the shop later this week and see if he left any notice/contact details in the window.

Did you pay by credit card - if so you should be able to get the money back from them.

What a shame to end your professional life with this shambles...

I feel that John has squandered all the good will he built up :blast

He made fantastic quality gear, & there are so few like him left...

He's got an alteration of mine, who knows if I'll ever see it again

How utterly infuriating for you!

I have recently had good service from Cougar Leathers near Royston.

Thanks for the info. :thumb2

Looks like a good place for repairs and suchlike...

The thing is, BTK would make you anything you wanted.

And that's a rare thing nowadays...

It is so annoying. I agree - any goodwill has gone. You are only as good as the last job etc...and if you are going to close the business have the decency to inform customers, new and old and certainly don't disappear with other peoples' cash. It is theft.
Unfortunately I paid by cheque and cash and gave him 10 or so patches found from a variety of ebay sellers.

So at present John is up by about £430 and I have got nothing to show for it but a great deal of time spent trying to track him down.

I have informed both the police and trading standards.

Thanks for the offer of a drive by. I've spoken to the hairdresser across the road, they dropped a note in. No response.
Sent a recorded delivery letter. It got returned.

Anybody got his mobile number?

Thanks again
