Help! Just noticed a couple of big 'bubbles' in the metal skin of the left side rocker cover thingy - what has caused this? Is a new cover required? I've got a pic but no rights to post attachments ... :tears

Cheers,

Nick

Sounds like the start of corrosion under the paint. :(
You've got to subscribe to the site to post piccies.

PLUS, this wouldn't have anything to do with an issue that raised its ugly head a few days ago? (timing of bubbles matches the occurence of the issue)!

Bike has been back firing like a ba*tard - y-piece and remus fitted and it has always popped but now it it like a machine gun after you roll off and then roll on again! Feels like the bike wants to stall at lower RPM but then in the mid-range each gear feels like it used to when one gear higher, i/e 2nd feels like the old 3rd, 5th feels like 6th ... 6th feels like an OD / 7th gear!

Bike is a twin spark 2003 models with 60,000 km on the clock.

CHeers,

Nick

one of your coilpacks is shagged, this is why the engine feels funny. Don't see how it's connected to the bubbling apint though?

Eliminator - yes, that's what I suspected, a failed coil pack thingy. Odd that it happened after I removed the tank (see below - checking cause of failed left side indicators) (no, checked throttle cable alignment, etc etc) and at the same time as the bubbled rocker cover!

I guess getting 2 new ones from Motorrowrks will sort it out - if not then there's nothing lost (except $$$) as these fail sooner or later anyway.

A new rocker cover may also be in order too. I have seen similar before but can't remember where - maybe it was on the R1100S forum I was on previously? Bugger!

And a left side indicator switch failure, to boot - replacement bits ordered from Beemer Boneyard in the USA.

There goes my tax money!
Cheers,

Nick

Whip em off and take em to a local shotblaster and then have them powdercoated. Job done and no need to worry about them again. You could even have them painted to match your tank colour as I did:thumb

LS Where did you get the work done and how much! The good ladies GS12 took a tumble last week and whilst the cover isn't cracked or chipped the paint has come off in lumps. Doesn't seem worth buying a new cover but she does like her bike looking nice:rolleyes:

Personally i like "experiance" marks;)

These good chaps did it for me http://www.redditchshotblasting.co.uk/ the owner is Dave Joynes, a fellow biker and a mate of mine. I've got a girlie friend who has a 1200GS and she scuffed her rocker covers in low speed drops and like your good lady she likes them to look good. Dave blasted and coated them in a very nice satin black to match the bike - they look great. Mention my name to Dave - Mike Harbon - that should double the price:D

i have a pair of mag coveres that are nearyl new, they both boxed up, i found them other day, the part no pressed in the inside are

7 672 592
7 672 591

i think there from the 1150, no scratches, bubbles or anything if there any use.

I'll look them up in November when the sadistic sods from Moto-Morocco have finished dragging her and the bike around the pistes.

Though i guess the bike may need a bit more than a shot blasting by then:eek::blast

Greatly appreciated Mike, Thanks:thumb2

Mate of mine does bead blasting and powder coating, I took a pair of Mike O's mag rocker covers to him but he said no. Mike got them done elsewhere but they blistered in the end. :nenau

This maybe due to the coil cap overheating. I've seen them catch fire and burn the wiring, as well as scorch marks on the rocker cover..

Steptoe. Thanks - I have ordered new coil packs (both) which should sort out everything, I presume? I ordered a replacement rocker cover for 'cosmetic reasons', too!

Cheers all.
