I’m currently in dispute with BMW concerning damage to my wheel rims, which they claim to have been caused by impact damage from “kerbing” the bike. I bought this bike ( G.S.1150) brand new three and half months ago from Linds in Norwich, and although I have ridden over kerbs carefully at no more than ten miles an hour, I find it hard to believe that this could have caused damage to the rims sufficient for me to have had the bike re-laid back to Linds because the rims had become too dangerous for me to consider riding it the forty miles there.
I have been riding bikes on and off road for twenty-five years and have never encounted this kind of damage before. BMW have informed me that, because in their opinion, my own incompetent riding caused the damage, the repair is not covered by my warranty. This is on a bike, which is advertised as a long distance machine suitable for sustained dirt track riding in foreign countries where the chances of repair are minimal.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has encounter a similar problem with this model of GS, or any similar damage caused to any recent BMW advertised as a dirt track bike.
