Okay, we all know that the GS suffers from this. Following my recent issues with fitting some aux lights to my GS I'm currently without a screen. This morning was the first time that I've ridden her to work like this and I'm really surprised just how much better it is with the screen off.
I saw someone on here has cut down their screen a lot, I wonder how much better it would be like that?

The cause of the buffeting is the upturn at the top of the screen which creates a vortex and the resulting drop in pressure at the back of the screen which by chance is right where your head is.

The solution is a screen with a clean cut at the top so no vortex is created, this can be taller but any screen without the upturn should work, my Cee Baileys works like a charm, yesterday we were out riding, there were 4 GS'S and two others all except me had to stop and clean the visors, mine was clear because the Cee Baileys screen takes the air over the top, well impressed.

The gap between the screen and the inner silver cover makes a difference as well, this is where the "Tobinaters" score by increasing the gap thefore reducing the vortex at the top of the screen.

Ah, that makes for interesting reading. I may take a cutting tool to the top of my screen in that case although I'll see how I'll go with the screen off for the moment.
Just got to get a screw to replace the one I had to remove with an angle grinder before I put the screen on though. Can't say I'm too inpressed with the round bolt they have on the back of the screw.

Oh, and...

its amazing the number of guys that have a GS and a Blackbird, we have the best of both worlds and I think classics , I see yours is like mine a PGM FI no cat version.

A chap in our IAM group had one the same as mine and had it stolen so he bought a nice shiney new silver one and is having no end of grief with it hunting and surging and the dealer can't work it out, I reckon its the bloody cat and O2 sensor, piggin' crap things, so look after your Bird, you get another like it.

Ain't that the truth. I've got her up in the garage at the moment waiting for some TLC on the cooling system, however I did have her out for a few runs over Christmas. Boy is it a different style of riding though.

First of the fuel injected were the best of the breed IMO. After that they started fiddling and it all went downhill.

69k miles in 4 and a bit years and she's still going strong. Started first time despite not being run for about 6 months.

Basically you want to equilize Outside and inside(back of the screen) so a turbulence is not created or at least Diminish.

In my limited knowage a big scrren only deviate the airflow but does not really cure the problem in fact many of the exentuate the suction problem produccing more turbulence and undesire effects, exept for the aeroflow with the big air intake.

The little brackets on the Tobinators ,do a wonderfull job at air injection and I consider them very efficient, simple practical development,,great Job Andy!!!!!!!!!!.

I came with this design(use exiting data and concepts) a few years ago trying to produce similar results ,it works extremlly well the only problem is that they are dificult to manufacture and shipping prove to be much of a problem and a expense,,for some time I try to make "Scientific experiment to generate a Template and a "Instruction kit" so people can fabricate them selfs but do to lack of support from others and my personal lack of time never got to be

here are some photos anyway

Here are all the Photos that I have from the early project.

don't ask i don't know anymore and I will not get drag into this anymore,,no time.

Ain't that the truth, I find myself going to the garage then trying to decide which to take out.

Both bikes give such a different riding experience I just wish it was possible to ride them both at the same time.

When I first had the gs I also had screen problems.
I cut the lip off with a jig saw then sanded it down smooth.
The finish was very good and you could'nt tell it had been cut.

It made a big difference but still didn't cure the buffeting completly,so I tried a vario one and it works great.
It vibrates more than the o.e. one but it's not a problem I'm 5'9''works for me.
:) :) :) blu.

Those of you without Blackbird's are only jealous, and with good reason, mines Pheonix blue as well, I love it.
