BUlb Warning ??

Hi all,

I have fitted HID conversions to both dip and main on my 05 1200gs, I now have a warning light showing a bulb and an up arrow which I assume means a bulb out at the front, I did during installation turn on and off the ignition a few times with out bulbs in, would this be the cause or does the system know that there is not a conventional bulb fitted.

Can this be reset?? , How do I do it?? or do I just live with it.

TIA

Sorry, I don't have an answer.

I just wanted to say how nice it is now to not have old Limp Dick jumping on every "bulb" post saying it should be a lamp... :thumb

I have written a couple of brief paragraphs on this at www.HID50.com ... click the link to the "50 watt vs 35 watt" page.

(sorry ... blatant self promotion  :augie )

I believe it is possible for a dealer to reprogram the thing to cancel this warning - but then you may be making the total cost of the kit pretty expensive if you include the dealer's reprogramming.

....ah yes, but was it not globes, that he insisted we all call them?

...walk into a shop, "May I have two 60 watt light globes, my good man" - a smack on the nose would be the reply, or a call for the straightjackets...

Ok then, I read those posts and the resistior made sense, bike had 55w bulbs, now 35w hid's, so i contacted the seller, he said ah yes we do a plug in set of resistors at 20w to solve the issue, I have fitted these tonight and the warning light is still on, do you have to do a reset procedure, or ride the bike or anything else??? surely i dont need to have the dealer reset the light ??

Dealer shouldn't have to reset the warning. If a bulb blew all you would need to do would be replace the bulb....:nenau. I would either say the resistor is incorrect, incorrectly wired or both.

When I fitted my HIDs I disturbed the small pilot light bulb in its socket when I removed or refitted it. I was focused so much on the LAMPF failure that I failed to notice that the pilot was not working:blast

With the LAMPF failure, it does not clear until a short while after the lights have been turned on, by starting the engine. If you tried turned lights on with nothing fitted at all then there Will be a LAMPF failure that should clear, after a short while. Sorry, but I do not know how long that while is; when it happened I just know that it was there when I left home, and gone when I consciously checked much later.

Does your HID work ? Or, is there a chance you have reversed the polarity on the connections. If the lights work, and the pilot/sidelight works, I would ride it, and keep an eye on the status of your lights and the warning.

Just to clarify, all the lights are working, they are all wired correctly and I was out on the bike for 200 miles yesterday, but still the warning light is on?? I have not had BMW's before and have been an owner for two weeks, can ayone recommend a dealer to talk too. CW in dorchetser have been reccomended, but i feel a bit cheeky ringing them !!

The resistor I used was I think 25 ohms. Try 2 start ups in quick succession letting it do its start up sequence each time. :nenau
