Has anybody ridden down to Bulgaria, I have friends who have moved near Sofia and they want me to visit, any help would be appreciated
Many times
Route all depends on how long you've got and what sort of distance you like to cover in a day.
Can be done in 2 and a bit days if you stick to motorways wherever possible, however avoid the DN1 in Romania like the plague!! 300+ miles of constant roadworks and lunatic international truckers

If in a rush I would head down to Budapest on the Motorway (good accom in Buda
http://www.bikercamp.hu/ ) Turn South in to Serbia and visit my bar in Novi Sad (
http://www.mkbrothers.org/eng/sergejs-ranch/location.html bit tricky to find but if you stop any biker (not a sports bike as out there they are mainly ridden by wealthy fasion victims

) in or near Novi Sad and ask for the Brothers club house. From NS head for the Danube Gorge and follow either the Serbian or Romanian side till you get to a Bulgarian border crossing.
If you have a week spare to get there then head straight down to the Alps and turn left

Weave your way over some of the classic passes and down in to NE Italy, over the Sella Nevia to the SS54 into Slovenia, south then north and over the Virsic pass. Then either down to the Croatian coast and follow that in to Montenegro and up to my bar in Novi Sad

Or via Lake Bled in to Croatia, down into Bosnia, Montenegro and then to my bar in Novi Sad

Then the Danube Gorge down to Bulgaria
Hope that helps
