Burnt out valves

Trip the light fantastic

Sorry guys, none of it is a wind up. I figure that you can either learn from other peoples mistakes and experience and get what you want, or you can just follow the others and be the same. I have been trying all manner of things on my bike, some worked some didn’t, some were over the top (see other posts!) but I tried them none the less. I am not one for the Harley Davidson school of tuning, ie buying bolt on stuff and being like everyone else (goodness me, whatever next, tassle jackets and leather panniers?). The filter mods on my bike might not look very pretty, but then again I want to ride it not look at it. (and incidentally, in its current incarnation was actually cheaper than the K&N mod)
I am currently running with modded 1100S cams and a lightened crank, plus a few other bits that you cannot buy (yet!). I am working on twin air sensors so that I can junk that restrictive airbox and have a separate filter on the back of each injector block.
I am getting huge airflow through my set up, and lets not forget, cubes and throughput are what we want (cubes are on the way).
I have also tried the Techlusion route but it is now residing with someone who thinks he really needs it (sorry Brian), I have had much better results with the BB power chip as I can modify this further still using my laptop. Yes my tickover is very lumpy but as I am not there that often it doesn’t bother me. I have tried many combinations of exhaust, and at the moment I am getting the same flow rates out of my modified standard can as from some so called race pipes. But, I still have those lovely little numbers on it for when the boys in blue want to have a chat.
Anyway, back to the original thread, I have never had problems with my valves whatever the set up on my bike. Does no one check their machines between service intervals (or do they expect it to be ok because it’s a BMW isn’t it?) A quick check of the plugs now and again is essential as the motronic unit does wander sometimes. (I even check the plugs on my other bike even though its is treated with kid-gloves, and has a full over the top service history, because manufacturers tolerances these days just aren’t up to scratch)
As for selling my bike, I doubt by the time that I have finished with it I would buy it either, but on the way I will have embarrassed many plastic fantastics not to mention all the weekend warrior modded beemers (the power is there guys, just look harder for it!)
Anyway, the best advice I can give is to learn German, or get a German speaking wife (although this was not the cheapest option, or the best decision I have made {oh, hello dear, I didn’t see you there, of course I love you}it has provided me with some very useful info).
The krauts have some fantastic websites about boxer engines and have been tuning them for decades, their mistakes and successes are outstanding starting points for tweaking your motor. Most recent addition is a set of RT wheels with some sticky rubber, much more fun round the twisty bits. Apologies for the war and peace documentary just thought that I would let you know what I am doing and that I am looking for some real progress rather than the “nice” option..
