I have a 99 R1100GS and have System panniers on the sides, some kind fool reversed into the bike knocking it over on its right side knocking the right pannier off, snapping one one of the securing hooks off the top.
Now after contacting a BMW dealer here in the south of ireland, i can get a replacement back from the dealer, but there is no videos on youtube or anything on the internet, to give a description on how to do the job of swapping the rears.
Has anybody done this? and could shed some light on this??

I now know they are designed to part company with the bike when stressed in this way, I picked up the pannier and broken part (hook) but to my amazement, after unlocking it simply re-attached to the bike and felt quite secure. Just to be sure I ran a webbing strap through both the handles of the panniers so one was attached to other one,all the way back from Dieppe I was concerned but it didn't budge an inch. Getting home I used a strong glue and re-attached the part, also using some fine ,longish self tapping screws to ensure the bond. Other than reading your post I have forgotten about the incident and continue to carry on using the pannier, think of it as "character". So , if your pannier is not too scuffed up try this before buying new inners. Cheers
