Buying an F800GS

Re calls should have all been done. As above re head bearings

From a dealer? Or private?

Corrosion maybe on the front of the engine?

Now at 98,000+ with mine .... one of the best bike's I have ever had :thumb
No issues, no problems, no corrosion ... no worries :D

Best of luck ....

Cheers fella's......

Should've known there'd already be a guide.... Some people are slow learners:blast

If you are buying Ians bike, then it will be a great bike, he wouldnt know how to put a bike under stress, he is one of those gentle look after it type guys. and I have ridden it in 2009, it was great then and doesnt sound like he has done many miles since.

I like the look if that bike... I tried to persuade him to swap it with a few quid for my 1150GSA, but don't think he's interested.... Worth a go:augie

The one I'm looking at is in a dealership in Surrey... Unless I can sell my bike soon.

Hed have to get it passed his wife and I dont think he has a hope :D Im sure he has a dakar hidden somewhere :D

Ask if it's been ACF50'd. If it has, then the paint should be good. If it hasn't, then do it as soon as you get it!

As others said, check the state of the bearings and chain/sprockets. Otherwise there's not much commonly goes wrong.

The one I went to look at was no good, well it was alright, but had been sold by the time I got there :blast

I stopped on the way home and test rode a brand new one, courtesy of coopers in tunbridge. I liked it, but it had horrible high speed (70 mph, obviously:augie) wobble/front end lightness/instability..... Anyone else have this, or is it just me being used to the weight of bigger bikes?

To be honest, I think I'm gonna keep my 1150, can't bear the thought of parting with the old faithful, but would still be interested... Just in case.

There is no way you should experience any stability issues. Your test ride experience must have been down to a fault/tyre pressures.

Don't give up looking ... but do try and sell yours first if you can. Part exchanges can be so flipping costly .

I think the F8 is just so different to your old faithfull.

If your realy keen on an F8 you need a bigger test ride to get into it :thumb2

it's never going to be like yr 1150 and by what you have said you would miss it :thumby:

mind both great bikes :thumb :beerjug:

Mine is rock solid at 70 plus a bit on motorways, so your test mule was definitely at fault.

They're a great bike, I absolutely love mine, and if it got nicked or written off tomoro, I'd go straight out and get another.
