Buying preloved G650X - what to look for?

Wheel rim damage.
Leaking front forks.
Notchy steering head bearings.

Apart from that they are usually fine, most having been second bikes used for light trail rides...... mine included!:augie

There are a large number of ex-BMW school bikes.... mixed feelings on these really, cheap and cheerful but hard plenty of drops and damage to body work.

Timpo.

To this list i'd also add:

check for play in the front wheel bearings.
Check the condition of the radiator- this does collect a lot of crap, and over zelous use of a pressure washer will fold the core fins over.
make sure the swing arm bearings have been serviced recently- if these are seized they will be a right b****** to remove and replace. (not much of an issue if you can afford to pay someone else to do them).

Apart from that, no real inherant problems :)

Shock which squeaks at top of travel. My first was replaced under warranty, two years and 20k miles on and the second bottom shock has started squeaking.

Bottom shock bolt through swingarm
. Because water collects in the recess with the bike on the stand, the bolt can seize in the swingarm. Mine seized so badly that BMW had to give me a new swingarm when they replaced the shock under warranty! The hole in the swingarm is now packed with grease and blocked with a wine cork.

Alloy wheel spacers wear badly but this is common with most dirt bikes.

Thanks all!

what were the options on the bike, I see ABS was an option, I haven't been able to find a list of them, are there any must haves?

thx,

Clayton

ABS bikes also have an accessory power socket. This can be retro fitted to non-ABS bikes but they can be bought from maplins or an auto accessory store much cheaper.

BMW also sell their own hand guards and rear rack.
