I'd appreciate some advice please. I'm thinking of buying a late 2004 1200GS in Kuwait where I'm working at present. I'm trading my existing 640 Adventure. The owner has added a lot of extras e.g. Adventure style protection bars, fog lights, bigger screen etc and other goodies like a GPS, CB radio and alarm. As far as I'm aware, there's been no change to suspension/exhaust. The bike's done around 50,000 Km (30,000 miles) at least some of it on a couple of long rides from Kuwait to Jordan and back, and has been dealer maintained from new. My question is: what should I be looking for in a GS this age? What's likely to go wrong/break in the near future? Or any other pointers. Thanks, David.

welcome I cant see any problems at 30000 miles just make sure all services have been carried out and all recalls done. I had a 1200 gs in 2005 with no problems although I live in Ireland. JJH

If you are comfortable with the dealer who maintained the bike, and it comes with a reasonable warranty, then go for it. They take at least 12000 miles to settle down from new so someone else has had the teething troubles and paid the initial depreciation.

Thanks for the steer guys, I look forward to getting to grips with it. Provided the gs and I get on, longer term plan is to ride it or a successor back to London when my time in Kuwait comes to an end. Cheers, David
