connected zumo to ignition wires so had switched feed
now got a buzzing in the headphones that varies with the engine
any ideas of a diferent place to connect wires
or is this to do with the alernator output
?

Try hooking it directly to the battery to start. If the noise persists, you will have to try to filter it.

Try and keep the power wires short, and route all wires as far away from the alternator and the coils as possible.

If you do wire anything to the battery, make sure that it doesn't drain any power when the bike isn't in use, or find a different switched 12V circuit that's 'cleaner'.

Are you running the Zumo though an intercom that's also powered from the bike? If so that could be the cause. Autocom, if that's what you're using, do a special isolating lead specifically to remove this interference. Otherwise speak to the manufacturer of your intercom.
