It has been excellent with the carb mod in every way :thumb

Good to hear GarRy :thumb

I've been toying with the idea of this mod for years - do you / would you consider sharing (or need selling) how you did the temp gauge circuit?

Cheers
Matt

That is excellent Gary  in the end how did you fix the low fuel syphon problem !

I used the link pipe on the adventure tank and a T piece at the lowest point
Have run it to within 4 litres of empty with no problems
I still think i will alter it at some time to the same layout as a R100GS
Thats will work for sure

I have a carbed 1100 with an adventure tank with the T piece in the link pipe. It suffers from fuel starvation at about 140miles from a full tank. Then if the tank is full and I horse it on it shows similar signs. I am wondering if it is the fuel filter creating a bottle neck. ( smaller glass type fitted at present) what type of filter have you fitted and have you had any problems like this?

Anyone any ideas?

I use a small car filter on mine
I tried a low pressure pump but had problems with flooding the carbs when the tank was full. A pressure regulator should have sorted it but i didn't have one handy to try
I have found that the way you route the pipe from the pick up point to the carbs makes a big difference
By a bit of trial and error i have now got mine so it will use to within 2ltr of empty so i have left it at that
Route the pipes like on a R100GSPD would work for sure.
And that was what i was going to do but i am happy with the setup i have now

Damit. Having all the problems I have now with the electronics ... I should have done this 2 months ago and have a bike.

Any good DIY resources on how to do this from noob level?
(ok, I'll google)

Hi Gary
I've also done the carb conversion, but being a non engineer I've ended up with the carbs the wrong way round due to the L hand one fouling the suspension. Steve Scrimminger is as usual very busy. Would you be interested in making me up a pair of your alloy spacers as I don't have the skills to do it myself? I'm happy to pay up front at whatever cost you see fit.
Many thanks
Pete aka "manslag"

if you get a couple of inlet stubs secondhand its easy to cut the rubber part off leaving you the plastic part and the o ring, smear of sealant and youre sorted, clearance is fine,15000 miles no probs, cheers

Just as an update to this thread from when Gaz did this conversion, I am now the new owner of this amazing oilhead. Those of you who know me are aware I have had many GS's:aidan I have to say that apart from my normal problem due to being vertically challenged this really is an outstanding ride. It is silky smooth, pulls like a train and so far in the first 300 mile bash round Wales it has given me great grin factor. Just like an Airhead~~~~ on steroids.
Just need to change the Mitas 07 tyres which are great but need new one's after 10ooo miles apparently and still tread left even if a bit squared off. Add the Ohlins, Sargent seats, Gaz modified boxes, MRA screen etc etc and you have a crackin' bike.
Just needs a Givi monokey topbox (does anyone have one in the shed??) and it is good to go anywhere. Dent here we come:blagblah

A bump to the top for this thread, as sadly this wonderful bike has to go due to my short legs and knackered shoulder...😞😩
There is a R100R out there which is what I am looking for👀

Ok, to save anymore folks asking. Genuine reluctant sale. Combine my 28" inside leg a knackered shoulder and my fast approaching retirement age I have to concede defeat and let it go. Anyone who is a long time GSER will know that GaryH is a wizard on these bikes, acknowledged in this original thread. A one off bike which would cost an arm and a leg to convert by Scriminger (and not as well)
Last Mot May 16(no advisories). New Mitas 07 tyres just fitted. 56k miles all mot's. GaryH owned it for 10 years. Always covered in acf50 never used in Winter. Superb carb conversion, this bike runs incredibly well.
Adventure tank (qr fixings) and 1150 hand guards, Wunderlich engine bars, MRA screen, mudguard extender, Hella fogs /driving lamps(switch in indicator switch), up and back bar risers, TT rear brake extender, Sargent seats, Ohlins rear shock ( rebuilt 3k miles ago), Odyssey battery, Alpos boxes on Givi frames (quick release with typical GaryH engineering plastics mounts), Givi top box.OE tank bag.
Includes spare custom made throttle cables, OE seats and screen.
Ready to ride anywhere.
3k firm.
R100R taken p/x as that is what I want to downsize too.

Very nicely done Gary, shame it's not as straightforward for the 1150.

ive a 99 1150 engine stowed away in my garage with this very same set up that ran sweet

:D for a project some years ago but ive jut not the time to do anything with it , if anybody fancys it give us a shout i need to make some room back here:blast

Hi Chad, would definitely be interested... have sent you a PM :thumb2

1100 on Steroids

Thanks to the interest shown in this bike, but I decided that I must be mad to part with this appreciating asset so it is going to stay in the shed.
After all choosing between an ISA and the 1100 was an easy choice:D:thumb2:rob
Of course I am ecstatic as regards my purchase of the R100R Mystic which is superb, just picked it up today:D:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1
