C550 PIN problem

Where I work we have a Streetpilot C550 for which some idiot has entered a PIN then left the company. Does anyone know how to unlock the device? We don't know where on the face of the Earth the PIN was entered so we can't take it there to unlock it.

just done a quick google search,the only options appear to be trying a soft reset of the unit or contacting garmin and explaining the situation.

Why not ask the ex employees for the unlock code

Garmin say "pay us money" and a C550 isn't worth much. We don't know which idiot set the PIN otherwise we would chase him for it.

If it's not worth anything, chuck it and get a new one if that's cheaper than paying Garmin.

Try plugging it into the PC and updating the software (v6.50 now).

On a lot of kit, this will wipe settings/pins/data etc so it's worth a go (even if it's on the latest version, see if it'll over write)

Is there a number of attempts you have to do it?

If not, give it to the kids and promise them a tenner when they unlock it....the maximum number of times they'll have to try it is 9999 and the chances are (evens) they'll get it in less than 4999 goes..

Thanks for the link and advice. Unfortunately the unit seems to lock out the usb port while its waiting for the PIN. WIN2K wouldn't recognise the Garmin and the tool in the download you pointed me to couldn't find it either. Its either back to Garmin or into the scrap bin.
