I'm thinking of getting a Caberg flip front helmet for going on holiday in a few weeks. I like the idea of not having to remove my helmet every time we stop for fuel or a quick stretch of the legs. The internal tinted visor appeals too.

However, I'm struggling to get my head round paying so little for a helmet - eithe £99 or £149 depending upon model - when all my other helmets have cost £300+

Have I just been brainwashed by all the marketing and smart paintwork before??

Also, has anyone had problems with the tinted visor mechanism as a couple I checked in the shop were already broken?

They work fine but if your chin is as depicted in your avatar, you wont get the lid closed....;)

Iain, they are very good value but a little on the heavy side. Try one on at Ecosse Honda in Aberdeen where you can also try on a Shoei Multitec (usual high prices) You'll end up with the Multitec!! I've got both in the Garage.:thumb

I've got the Caberg Justissimo flip-front with the sun visor - excellent value and I wear it year round. Perfect in summer with the visor as I don't have to worry about sunglasses :thumb2

Noise is okay but I wear ear protection anyway. Same size as my Arai but feels a little roomier.

Tends to mist up when in heavy rain and then rain can trickle down the inside of the visor if you raise it let air in to de-mist.

That is the only gripe with it.

I'd give it 8/10 = well worth the money :D

+1 ,,,,,,

I have a Caberg Justissimo flip-up, cost about £149 I think. It's not the flashiest or of the highest manufacturing quality; but it has all the features I need (integral dark visor is great) and is very, very comfortable. I would have preferred a 'D' ring fastening, but have got used to the seat-belt type clip thingy. Overall - excellent value for money.

I wore one for 18months before treating myself to a Tour-X and was very impressed with it given the £149 price - finish is good, I never had any rain leaks despite riding for 2hrs+ in torrential downpour and flip works well as does the sunshade. Yep it is a little noisy - Tour-X no improvement on that ! - but with eaplugs it's fine. I could ride up to 50mph with the flip up too - great for hot days. Recommend the matt black as it looks cool. ;)

Its a great helmet - had 3 of the them now. don't go for the Trip if you'll need a FogCity as they have the double curvature and the FogCity wont fit to the visor.

The Justissimo visor has a supposedly fog free coating - but what it actually does is cause moisture to bead up on your visor and eventually you end up with rivers of water down the inside (but its not leaks just moisture)!

Not so heavy either - in comparison to other cheapies. All the benefits of the bigger names with a little (very little) extra weight - and half the cost.

BTW IMHO the flip down sun visor is essential for Spain, southern France and Italy where you go through tunnels daily - I cant use a dark visor in those circumstances, and riding early morning - through late night really demands the benefits of both dark and clear visors - without stopping to change them (or take off sun glasses on the move).

I asked the same question on another site, and had some very good advice, from a guy working in the crash helmet industry,

Conclusion was leave well alone, i wanted the lid only because of the internal visor,

I know its a lot more money but went for a schuberh instead,

Only because its much safer, and quieter, and has an internal visor.

I've just bought a Caberg today. I wanted a flip front helmet with the integral sun visor (I've lost too many pairs of sunglasses when riding). It's only the cheapie 'Tour' version but I find it comfortable, easy to fasten with good visibility, and reasonably light, it does seem a bit noisy though compared to my regular Arai, so I'll be using ear plugs more often.

I bought the Caberg purely for the three continental trips I'm having this summer. I used to have a Shoei syncratec flip front (no sun visor) which felt better quality than the Caberg, but for £90 I'm not going to complain. Tried the Schberth flip front, very good quality lid, but it felt totally uncomfortable and as it was to be a second lid I didn't think it was worth the extra couple of hundred pounds.

I know there is a vast difference in price and comfort but surely both helmets have passed the same EC test :nenau
