Cafes, coffee stops and favourite greasy spoons in the South East

Billy’s on the A29 north of Billingshurst did a good brekky this morning.

Rykas at Boxhill is under new management … toilets are still unpleasant.
Missus said ladies was awful. Toilet paper all over floor, wet seats and floor. Mens wasn’t much better.

An odd on but….

The coffee from the Algerian run cafe at Shadwell DLR station, is very good.

Nice people running it, too.

The trick, if you are taking away a cup of coffee, is to check-in with your Oyster card first, then buy your coffee, then catch the DLR. it saves juggling the cup and your wallet / card.

There’s not been much activity in this sub-section since 2019.

I guess Covid restrictions played a part but, for most of us, that is ancient history, almost as if it it never happened. Let’s give it a shake-up. A thing out there? A good cafe, a decent tea room, anything will do. If you like it, tell us why and where. The chances are someone will like it too.

Shoreham airport, West Sussex - Rather than going in the Hummingbird cafe in the terminal building, follow the flags to the far right of the terminal building round the corner to a small metal caravan and Cafe 9.

Maddie does superb coffee, amazing homemade cake, paninis, bacon sandwiches etc.

Seating is outside but I would highly recommend it.

Compton Abbas Airfield cafe

Come back from here today on my new bike great place loads of bikes all staff great and tiger moth airplanes flying out of here! :beerjug:
Not far from Zig-Zag hill.

Owned by Guy Ritchie the film director so the place is full of memorabilia. The airfield has great views.

The cafe is excellent and high end........however, so are the prices.

It's good to see this post reinstated. Here's a few that I hope are of use:

Tibbs Farm - TN31 6AR
On the B2089 between the A21 and Rye. Great views and lots of parking, but the surface is on a slope so take care on arrival / departure

The Custom Cafe - TN39 4QR
A259 between Pevensea and Bexhill

The Six Bells, Chiddingly - BN8 6HT
More of a lunch / coffee stop, great food and often lots of interesting stuff to see in the car park

The Langham Hotel - BN22 7AH
Eastbourne Sea Front. Pleasant terrace overlooking the sea, free parking spaces opposite if there aren't too many of you (and not taken by cars). Generous portion of flap-jack / shortbread (not a typical biker stop, but worth stopping if you're passing by - the owner gave us some complimentary Christmas cake when we stopped by in late December)

Mamma Mia Italian Restaurant - BN44 3RD (Steyning)
There's a car park opposite and a few outside tables to watch the world go by. Really good coffee there and the guys that run it extremely pleasant

Pomegranate - BN25 1NG (Seaford)
Not really a biker cafe per-se, but goof food / coffee and just around the corner from Biker Bits (BN25 1RU), if you were looking for any kit. Assuming Jock still works there, he'll happily chat to you swapping stories about your travels, etc.

Makaris Cafe (and ice cream parlour) - CT6 5JG (parking practically opposite on the sea front - you'll be blind if you miss the bikes parked there)
Who doesn't like a good ice cream? They have a number of tables outside, but the place next door seems to insist on playing annoying ice-cream jingles ALL the time. Eventually, it becomes rather maddening and it wouldn't surprise me if you develop a tick similar to Chief Inspector Dreyfus. You have been warned...

A few that have been mentioned earlier in the thread are also worth checking out:
* Shoreham Airport
* Lydd Airfield (now Biggles cafe has reopened)
* Headcorn Aerodrome (not uncommon for there to be an event on here)

Let's keep them coming!

Had an excellent lunch at Fish @ 55 on Rochester High Street last week. Very good lunch selection (2 courses £25) plus lots of other choice and daily specials. Not a café but a very nice treat

i recognised headcorn but sadly their cafe shuts at one on a wednesday (down there next week)

anyone recommend a cafe for lunch on or near the A2 from chatham to faversham? ta

Beigel Bake . Brick Lane. Park the bike 20 feet away opposite the shop.
That end of Brick lane is closed to traffic on a Sunday from 6am until 4pm due to the street market.
The best Salt Beef beigels, open 24 hours, the queue can be long.
Eat inside standing at the ledge watching the weird and wonderful clientele:D
Here’s a tip, buy one salt beef and one plain, there’s more than enough beef to make a second salt beef using the plain beigel :D

Tottingworth Farm and Cafe near Heathfield, Sussex

Definitely not the cheapest but I've been going there a good few years and always found it to be good.

Another cafe on the pricey side, tucked out the way so only know about by locals. Also been decent food.

Woodstock Cafe, Maidstone/Ditton

Some good recommendations here to try out when the GS comes out from its winter rest :DD

As previously stated Shoreham Airport is very good as is Carats Cafe Basin Road South BN41 1WD .. which is right down at Shoreham Harbour.
Enjoy.
