What's different? Is it the chamfer down the front and rear outer edges?
Edit: scrub that. Comparing between the designs and the one in your avatar there's quite a few chamfers going on.

well Yes , the Champher on Both sides as well as lid and the "underside" . These will also sit higher. But Retain the Same 91cm side to side fitted
But the Big one is that the Pannier will be folded from one Piece.
. The Whole pannier will be one piece, when flat. with the exception of the champhered corners.

Then you should shout a bit louder about them being made from a single sheet and the associated benefits, as I didn't really pick that up from your original post. Does this add a lot of cost?

Clever, I'd like to see a pic of the real thing though.

Should be cheaper I'd have thought, with less welding. But a lot stronger.

As Civil says, it's only in the design stages at the mo, so you won't get a photo, but it shouldn't be difficult to imagine and I expect he can provide a drawing to prove it.

It'll definately be stronger and neater as well but I don't know if it will be more labour intensive and therefore more expensive. :nenau

A much more aesthetically pleasing than the current design :thumb2

It may be neccessary to have at least one weld in the base, to get better usage from each sheet of aluminium - but that won't detract from the strength or looks.

So - I reckon the new design will finally sway the people who think "I'm sure they are good panniers - but what a backside".

Should these not be called the "Caja Sahel Trax"? :augie

someones got himself a copy of solidworks ;)

they should be more expensive - cos each box has to be cut from a single sheet of metal

Thats the show stopper. Sort this out before redesigning the panniers :thumb2

I'd have to agree with Kev... no point in "borrowing" Trax/BMW design shape if you're not going to do quick release like them too

Plus how are you going to make the exhaust side cut out of one piece of metal.. i can't work that out?

As you alway say you Listen to your customers get the Quick Release sorted... i'd say it's one of the biggest things putting people off buying.

and make them retro fitable to mine

Which look "similar" to the 1200 GSA luggage, made by TT

Back to the original question, I think the chamfered edges help getting on / off the bike as there's not so much of a lip to drag your foot over. It'll be a big sheet of metal that's only got to be cut / bent slightly wrong and then you'd hope you could make lids out of it. Removable / being able to fit the pair in 5 mins would be ok for me.

Price will always be a factor, in MM or Trax territory?

Also,just a question,and not a criticism ;

Why make the toughest, most durable panniers on the market and then mate them rigidly to frames made only from mild steel that I'm guessing would rust quicker than Wizard taking a cold shower ?

And if you do make them quick release, can you copy that TT design for the GSA so one could buy a set of locks from BMW and slide them straight in to enable use of the ignition key like wot you can with the OE luggage.

If they looked like the TT/BMW OE ones (ie,as you have designed :augie),were quick release and removable/lockable with bike ignition key,and came in a black powder coat option,I would buy a set.

TT Zega fastening system is the best and its not exactily complicated.
The idea of having to unbolt panniers was what put me off yours, that and having to send about £500 in cash in the post!
So possibly work on your method of accepting payment method too :)
