Hi - I had a "lipstick" video camera mounted on my previous bike - a K1200S - using a very strong sucker fixing. However, on the GS, there doesn't appear to be a big enough flat area to get the sucker to mount. So, a good friend made me a camera amount that fitted to the spotlight mount on the left side. This works well apart from a lot of vibration which spoils the video.

Question is has anyone else mounted a camera on the bike and where did they find was the best spot to get a vibration free video. I can't understand why the two bikes are so different - the K1200S was rock steady from a fairing mount - I understand that the spotlight mount is attached direct to the chassis and will get the vibrations from the road but is there anywhere better? Has anyone tried a rubber mount to reduce vibration?

Stick a RAM ball mount on your spotlight hole and you should be sorted.
They're rubber and may take up some of the vibes for you.
I mount mine on the brake resevoir and it's vibration free.

Hi

I use a velco pad and also mount mine on the brake resevoir cover thats part of the hand guard.

Works fine, just need to make sure you dont video the screen. :D

Here you go!

Works like a bomb.............. however must say that it sticks like glue for around 3 days.... then I can pull on it and it will come off. Might be the suction mount itself?
I'm going to stick one of those round pads there first (the ones that come with some satnav's for dashboard mount)- then the mount.

So far I'm chuffed!

Thanks to all for the responses - I think I will try and get a smaller sucker such as the one used by Goose - my current one is too big for the panels available on the GS.

@Goose - is that mount the £9.95 option from Dogcam Camera Systems?

I use the window camera suction mount from Dogcam, mounted in the same location as Goose under the RH indicator. However, my '05 GS doesn't have the same black plastic beak cover so there's more area to stick onto.

The D-shaped lever that creates the suction also acts as a great place to attach a safety tether (not very clear in the pic as it's obscured by the indicator). That said, a tether may be overkill - at an air expo recently I was told that the same mount will hold a camera securely on a light aircraft's wing during flight so they do a pretty good job (albeit without the road vibration problems).

Right - thats the exact same sucker mount that I have and used on my 1200S - I will obviously had ego try harder to find the sweet spot that allows it to stick and stay put - maybe its the matt paint work that is the problem - I thought it was a lack of surface area.

I agree re the tether - I drilled the D piece on my clamp and fitted a split ring and a tether - it was fine on my 1200S up to way beyond where a GS is likely to be clocked - it also provided a vibration free mount with plenty of adjustment- I will have another play tomorrow and report back.

Thanks again for the assistance! If you want to see some of the video then take a look at www.mountain-rats.co.uk where we post video from a 1200S, a 1200GS and a Kwak 1400 GT.

I have tried RAM mounts in several locations, albeit rigid bar mounts and find the vibration unacceptable for pleasant viewing. In my opinion, , body mounted camera is the smoothest option. especially helmet mount.

OK - tried again following the advice from Poley but I can't find enough flat bodywork to attach the 3 1/2 inch sucker to. My GS is a 2011 model and looks to have a slightly different beak make-up?

Anyway, I think I will give the smaller suction mount a try - hopefully I can find enough flat space to get a good stick!

Try use one of these Garmin Dashboard Disc's first............. I'm sure some kind-hearted soul has one lying around that's not in use. That would allow you to increase the footprint..... or get hold of a 4 - 5mm piece of perspex that you could shape nicely and use that...?

Last weekend I used a triple sucker mount for a bullet cam on the right side panel on my GS12. Stayed on for a track session but camera lens suffered a bit from the wet weather

Stick it on your helmet, then any vibrations are totally gone, plus the camera looks at where you look :thumb2

You can also bung it on the bike as well.....
