I shall be going to Lithuania in June and need to camp overnight in Poland.
Anyone got a good website showing actual camp sites?
Somewhere near Lodz would be good.
Googling throws up lots of Motels or Motorhome dealers so camping must
mean something else in Polish.

Me too cheers.:thumb2

Planning on riding for a month or so round Europe in a few weeks and want to spend a few days in Poland with a visit to Auschwitz Birkenau. This will be very useful.

Anyone any experience stealth/wild camping?

Why stealth/wild camp in Poland?

Hotels and home stays are as cheap as camping in the UK :nenau

I've uploaded my file for the trip I did a couple of years ago to Poland which contains

- 26 campsites
- 10 concentration camps (KL-prefix)
- all 6 extermination camps (TL-prefix)
- 14 POW camps (Stalags and Oflags)
- 2 German bunker sites (Mamerki and Rastenburg/Wolf's Lair)

Right click and save as. If the download changes the suffix of the file, rename it to .gpx then open in Mapsource.

Following the advice of others for the Auchwitz/Krakow visit we stayed at Camping 103 Clepardia and took the opportunity whilst in Krakow to see Schindler's Factory and its nearby concentration camp.

We also stopped overnight inside Colditz Castle in what used to be the German guards' quarters and is now a Youth Hostel. My father-in-law was in Stalag XX-A so I wanted to see what was left. Planning thread.

Many thanks for that Tim, will come in handy for me to be sure :thumb

But if there's any entry fee to be paid anywhere then maybe our friend won't get his hands in his pocket, cos cheap aint free

:) It would be funnier if I hadn't literally just lost my job this Thursday, thanks to government spending cuts of course! I know :topic Sorry OP.

But what kind of fecking retard slashes public spending and cuts civil service jobs during a recession and high unemployment? Bankers still get their bonuses or course... This unprecedented idiot of a PM has no clue. At this rate say goodbye recession and say hello depression!

‘Austerity For All’... except for millionaires like themselves and their friends in the City. Its all because of the Britain's Tory induced unprecedented national debt hysteria. When in reality, Britain's national debt has been higher as a proportion of GDP for 200 of the past 250 years. At a time when Britain won wars, assembled an astonishing navy, built an empire and launched the Industrial Revolution to become the envy of Europe.

Read here to see why slashing public spending causes real harm, Keynes called it the paradox of thrift. So Cameron, you Toff W@$KER, I'm hitting the road and spending my money in Europe. Rant over!

Anyway, thanks Tim, I'm sure that will be very useful.

Well dat's the Civil Service for ya!

Thanks Tim , i'll take a look at that.
What are the Polish roads like - I have a 450 mile day to through Poland (on a Harley) - doable?

Steve

Hi again

The Poles are busy building new motorways, which are very good (usually toll) and some of the 'A' road equivalent are also fine. Many other roads suffer from poor maintenance and the rutting caused by HGVs (Almost every Pole seems to be driving one!) This rutting leaves double grooves in the tarmac, often two inches deep, which needs care, especially in wet weather when they fill up with rainwater! Most Polish drivers seem to have a death wish, and some of the overtaking has to be seen to be believed, usually in an attempt to pass the aforesaid HGVs, often travelling in a 'convoy'. Watch out too for the hand held radar deployed ferquently on the approach to smaller towns and villages. Poles are usually good about giving a warning, like the French.
