Hey guy's,
This is my 1st write up, so go easy and being a scot means that my english is attrocious.
We rode from Fife to Oban stopping at "The Green Wellie" in Tyndrum, supposed to be a good meeting point for bikers. But not in the snow. We did speak to a couple on their way from Glasgow to Skye, she was on a wee 125cc with L plates. Good going I say, but a long day in the saddle. And Probably not the most comfortable. Seeing the weather, a hostel was booked on Barra.
Ferry across was pretty uneventful, apart from my mate being sick, wimp. But the boat was heaving with women. Apparently Barra is the place to be at Easter. Aye not bad looker's too.
Barra: 3 pubs, a celidh band, some houses and a co op. Some of the most beautiful sandy beaches going, and some cracking wild camping spots. We left Barra on the Aird Mhor to Eriskay Ferry. Hinai learnt a lesson too. " If parking bike on slipway pointing down, leave in gear" His trans alp decided it didn't like it's stand, wind screen, left indicator or Hinai's helmet. We found the helmet 5 foot up from the water on the other side of the break water.
The Uists: Apart from some pretty breath taking scenery, beautiful sandy beaches, distant hills and little hamlets dotted all around. Oh, the northerly gale and periods of beautilful sunshine, hail, rain and snow. ( Not complaining, although did at the time). There's a wee hostel on the island of Berneray. A bunkroom and kitchen but after a long day of pootling about, perfect. Problem was the hostel is down a track, so i got stuck and hinai decided he wanted to fly off his bike whilst turning around to help me.
Harris and Lewis: Ferry from Berneray to Leverborough. We rode up via Tarbet ( Harris Hotel, only place open, and did decent brew and cake) and took a wee side road off towards Huisinis. Beautiful wee road. Then up to Stonoway. We stayed in another hostel there. For 2 nights using Stornoway as a base. (Again, 3 pubs, 1 was shut and a very very severe lack of women to letch at.) Please note that on the Northern Islands, Harris and Lewis. NOTHING is open on a Sunday!!! Not even fuel and food. On Monday, we rode up to the top of the Island to Port Nis. F*&k me the wind!!!!!!! Big light house, really steep cliffs, raging seas, time for the gs to lie on it's side. Me being an idiot.
From the north we went south west towards Bragar, at a place called Carlabhagh, we took a road/track to the Black House Village. There's a nice wee hostel down there, just two rooms, kitchen with stove and bunkrooms. On our way back into Stornoway, we got caught in a white out and couldn't see a bloody thing. Hid in bus shelter.
The ride back: Oban to inverness.- Snow
Inverness to Rothesay, Hinai left and headed for Fife. Where i went south down to catch the Rothesay ferry to see my other half. I've got to tell you all this as I still buzz thinking about it. I rode down through Glencoe. The North facing side of the glen was still white, but southwas clear. I cheekily nipped in front of a queue of traffic at some road works, so when the lights went green I had the road to myself. In the distance some deer were grazing by the road, I spotted them and slowed down.( having hit one in the car, i know the mess they can make) Then the Stag, aye we're talking picture postcard looking Stag ran into middle of road, and stopped not 30 feet from me. I stopped. I half thought if he decides to charge at me i'm screwed. 10 seconds he stood there. Being in those surroundings in the middle of the Glen and sat facing the stag. Brilliant. It's what makes me realise what a beautiful place we live in. Despite the people that run it. Then the cars caught up and of course scared him off.
Home safe. Hopfully this hasn't bored you all to tears.
