On Yell at Burravoe pier there's a new toilet/shower/washing machine block just been put up with hook-up for wobblyboxes and a small (think room for about 2 tents small) camping area.

£2 per tent - no person charges. Quiet site but nearest shop 5 miles away. Nearest pub 10 miles away:D

BTW, the 'roof' is off the Canberra:

What Von K means is that the roof is a lifeboat from the Canberra not the actual ship.:flag:angel

Will do!:thumb

The Sail Loft at Voe is like a second home.;)

It's always good to have a bite at the Pier Head and have a 'crack' with Denise the cook and Keith at the Mussel Farm aswell as the folks at the bakery. That Big Bannock crew are mad as a box of frogs and i'm now the proud owner of as 'Maximum Spreeus-Nil Dortum' bike sticker!

Shetlands a fine place and the roads are excellent with some challenging riding conditions. I'm surprised more GS'ers don't go up there but i'm not in a great hurry to go on the Hjaltland anytime soon after the last two crossings in November. It's the first time i've seen the galley dishes end up on the floor....!:barf

A summer trip to Shetland would make a nice change and I know Mrs P is keen to ride her GS there and not get blown off the road.

You should have done the trip on the old St Clair, back in the 70's before stabilisers were the norm.

I'm thinking of going back in May again, like my son and I did this year.

Right on cue - Wendy of Burra Bears has jist postit this ohn Facebook (read in an Unst accent...)

Shetland Visitor - 2012 digital edition

Someone on Unst must have a GS because when I stopeed for a pee in the ferry toilets next to 'Da Plinky Boat' there was some 'charming' grafitti in the gents which read..........'Unst is a Sh*thole and David Thompson is a Tosser'.....!:nenau

My favourite place on my last trip was 'Federland' and the old farmer in the wee croft at the 'end of the road' is quite a character(Douglas Murray)......They even asked me in for a cup of tea and a chat about farming which was nice but I had to stoop to stop banging my head on the rafters in his kitchen as those old houses have a very low ceiling.:blast Nice and cosy though and they're low to the wind.

FP.

Will you guys stop it, hope to get up for my 50th birthday treat in 2013 but your making me want to get there again much sooner !

AYE FP thon boats are the shape of wee cruise ships!
not really the thing for that wild wee stretch o watter . I was on it when they were brand spanking new . We had to wait for a couple o days for a storm to blow out ( just before christmas it was) before they woud put to sea
IT WAS INTERESTING to say the least:blast

Just been reading Micky's write up of the Simmer Dim rally last year. It's got me thinking.

Yes, and i've seen folk carried up the gangway pissed and people with huge carryouts coming aboard. Now if you trip and smell of booze your told to go away. Own booze not allowed.Drink too much on board and security or the barman has the polis waiting for you to drive of and be bagged.
Happy New year. Hopefully the Norwegian company will get the contract this ear and start a service to Norway.

I'm thinking of going back in May again, like my son and I did this year.
Don,t forget to give abody a shout.

Not the 70s for me, but the late 80s for my first trip. St Clair and St Sunniva could be very lively - but it was pretty easy to blag a visit to the bridge back then. Watching Fair Isle pass outside the bridge windows was a great expereince. I doubt Northlink'd be took keen to allow it these days.

Anyway, add me to the 2012 visitors log - it's going to be part of my Olympic avoidance plan. :beerjug:
