Camping or other digs?

We ended up getting an Ibis on the way down, then stopped 3 nights camping at Argentiere near Chamonix and 3 nights camping at Grindlwald near The Eiger. Booked nothing and just turned up with no problems.

Just doing a bit of research and paperwork checking when I suddenly had a horrible thought-my driving licence is away at DVLA having the LGV entitlement renewed:blast.
Do I need to have my licence in my hand to get through France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany etc?
I've still got a week before we go so will chase DVLA up on Monday-bit pished off cus it's been nearly 8 weeks now:mad:.

Just for info
I got stopped at the exit of the Mont Blanc Tunnel by the French Police who were clutching a photo of me going slightly over the speed limit:blast:augie.
They asked for my driving licence and weren't totally happy with my photocopies but it did the trick-all they wanted was my 45 Euros and considering my predicament I was happy to pay.

They can be quite hot in the tunnel for more than obvious reasons. I was being tailgated (uk) / normal driving (italy) by an italian lady through the tunnel, she got tired of this so overtook. A few mins after a bike cop came past, waved in apology, they pulled over the italian at the exit.

On the return trip back through later that day we were being tailgated by a car and when we got to the end of the tunnel I saw 3 Police start to walk into the road. My immediate thoughts were 'ohh no not again' but they waved me through and pulled in the car behind.
So yes best behaviour required in the tunnel:rob
