off to france on sunday(poole-cherbourg). Rough plan is Sauber,Limoges area t o visit friends and then on to Millau Tarn area to camp for 3 nights then on to Carcassonne area for a wedding  From there on to Santander for return ferry.
Any advice on campsites, roads places to see would be much appreciated.
Especially Millau / Gorges area as the idea is to base there and take in that area.

Just back from a fortnights ride round France and we stopped for one night at Millau. We stayed at a campsite called Les Rivages . It's about a 15 min walk from the town centre, handy for the bars and cafes. I'd happily stay there again.

thanks dellybelly, will give that a try. thought it was a more popular region :D

Remembering more on this area, we took the D991 away from Millau down one of the Gorges (can't remember the name, too many roads and amazing scenery over the two weeks). That was a good road, following the river for miles. Would be worth doing, stopping for a coffe along the way.

Hope that helps.

The actual Tarn Gorge is a must see, did it from South to North 3 years ago on a TDM, really spectacular. The only place in Europe where you can see Griffon Vultures living wild, loads of photo stops and one or two places to eat, I've got to get back there soon if only to ride over the Milau bridge.

Missed it last week - too hot to do the ride. The vultures though for any one who is interested are from a reserve in the Val D'Ossau. Went there week before last. Griffon, Lammigers, and Egyptians all nest and breed there, fantastic sights to be seen all over that area.

If the ride gets too hot , there is a bikers only campsite in the Dordogne Moto Camping Dordogne that is run by bikers for bikers. And their pool is great to dive into after the heat of the last two weeks. Meant to only stop one night ended up spending two and investigating the area. Superb couple of days. Only equalled by to the Iraty - Ossau Cheese Run a few days before.

Thanks for that I've just put that site in my favourites for closer inspection later this evening.

And watch out for caravan man

Followed the world champion Caravan Slalom driver through the Gorge du Tarne...

He was French, bl**dy fast and liked to drift the caravan as he went into the myriad of small tunnels. Sometimes only had a couple of inches to spare between the (expensive looking) caravan and the (very rough hewn) tunnel walls. Très intéressant...

Damned glad we were following him - can't imagine what it would be like to meet him coming the other way. Rather held my attention (waiting to dodge bits of fibreglass in the road), but SWMBO said the gorge was truly spectacular.

Camping? No idea.
