A long way from where I started!
Now I'm never expecting it to out perform the likes of a 450X or EXC or even a 690 Enduro R but I've seen very few vids where 800 riders look capable in proper trail conditions.
there are guys out there that can and I intend to steach its off road legs over here so fess up, who's a Sam Sunderland on an 800?

And of course, :postpics

aye - plenty of special stages just like that - up the air scoop in shite, mud over the heads. Appallingly muddy. Cliff faces of hell etc etc

They were just some nice gravelly stage photos from the Kielder K2 this year.

The K2 is hardly a challenge though Michael ... well apart from the boggy corner on the first special - :blast Will you be taking the GS around the boarders rally this weekend?? This should be more challenging - :D

Stumpi, there are plenty of guys (fools) like Michael that race the bigger bikes at various rallys across the UK and some are very competitive. Some are relatively easy like the K2 or a little more taxing such as the Rydale ...

well i do end up like this sometimes.

Not a challenge? Its fecking exhausting hauling that piece of pig iron around for 300 miles off road... what did you do it on??? A puddle jumper? :)

I wasnt talking about just the K2 when i said i get the GSA muddy BTW :)

Was it the Cambrian that someone off here decked a BMW and knocked one of the pots clean off?
I have thought about doing one of the Rallies on mine, but up to press common sense has prevented me. :D
Fair play to you Michael, though I must admit, if I had the choice between an 1150 and an 800, I know which I'd go for. :thumb

Not sure what you are looking for but here is my mate when we were off road a couple of years back. As always the photo does not do the steepness justice, and he had to turn towards the camera just as this photo was taken to avoid falling off the edge of the mountain! So in answer to your question, I'd consider that "properly off road" :)

Who decides what properly is? Whether it's a gentle bimble down a farm track or a full bore up a mountain it's whatever you enjoy. We are too fond of pigeon holing. I ride a bike because in enjoy it. Does that make me a biker? I can't wheelie am I still a biker? I don't care. JJH

Properly was meant as just a turn of phrase, not Oxford.

Actually what I meant by "properly" was not just riding green lanes or dust tracks, but riding over challenging terrain in a manner that takes a higher level of skill and an increased level of risk.
I'm not judging or branding, I view anyone here as a brother on two wheels and have the highest respect for each and every one, but I want to see some properly testing terrain attacked hard by a rider on an 800.
I've seen it in the vids I've posted but have never met or talked to anyone that has ridden an 800 like this and would like to. It's the kind of riding I like to do.
That's all. :-)

Lend me an 800 and I'll give it a shot. :D :green gri
You might want to organise a couple of big strong chaps to pick it out of the scenery afterwards though.

Not sure what green lanes you ride or imagine some of us ride, but there are plenty in both the Peaks and Wales that I have ridden on my 950 that are more taxing than those shown in your video -

I used to race a 125 in motorx and enduro. Got it stuck a few times so hats off to those who try on big bikes. I took the 1200 gs up dirt track at hamsterly forest but didn't seem right.
