Numbty question perhaps, especially as it don't seem to apply to me as an 1100 rider, but just what is a 'Can Bus'? Owt like the 'Knight Bus; emergency transport for stranded Wizards and Witches'? :D:D:D

No, slowdown, it's a 'Numbty' question. And do you really expect me to understand the gobbledegook in your link when I've had far too much rum and coke?:D:D:D I'll have a look when I'm sober...sometime next week..

It's simply a totally computerized electrical system!

you could say that today a powercable runs to a component, when there is power on the cable, the component works, when you cut the power, it stops

Very simply, and not perfectly correct, canbus could have a powercable going to every component with constant power on, and a computer cable going along it that tells each component what to do!

And as I said, this isn't exactly how it works, more what the big differences are, and why they do it....

The big win with this is that you can (simplified, again) draw one cable to the front of the bike and one to the rear, and a computer cable along them, wich saves cupper, weight, time and space! Unfortunately for us, it looses double that in do-it-yourself-service and modification...
I guess we don't know how the durability is yet, but it seems to have been a succes so far!

Hmmm yeah, well, as I know, they haven't had any big problems with it, a few bikes has gone around the world, they are 20 kilos lighter than the 1150, and they have a lot of more electronics! Hook all that up on an 1150 with the good old way of electronics, and you would add quite a few kilos!

So in all areas, except those I mentioned before, I would say success, yes

Ah I see .............an 1150 owner. Nice bike too - but one or two owners are reactionary to progress.:D

jus seein if it was a success , i didnt know, ???dnt get possesive on me:augie,,,,progress is good, dont like the idea of it tho, it doesnt really save much wieght or makes it more reliable tho...or does it?cnt chek the faults with a multimeter at side of road, or am i wrong?

I agree... rip the loom and computer gubbins out of a 1200 and the same out of an 1150 and I would put my money on the 1200 stuff being heavier. :D

Not much chance of fixing faults at roadside like you say... one wire can carry multiple signals.

Progress aint always good, I had a Pug 406 with canbus... one day the interior lights wouldnt work, diagnosed as a fault with 'one' of the canbus computer thingies :eek: just an interior light, all the bloody thing needed to do was come on when I opened the door... why make it complicated??? :nenau

I'm waiting for a badly crashed ( read cheap) 1200, and i'm going to attempt to fit an 1150 loom/electrical system on it.

But not so easy when the " Computer says NO " :augie

So true.........but then whatever fault exists won't be on the pair of wires that make up the CAN bus. These faults are most likely to be bad running etc. caused by the usual suspects.

One caveat: I bought a GS 911 :thumb2

But when your doing diagnostics you can't assume that.

very good, but not perfect by any means.
