Can I pick up a 12v feed at handlebars?

I am looking at adding a USB socket at the handlebars for iPhone and sena charging. I have bought the waterproof socket that has sufficient fused cable to go direct from the battery. Is there a way to route from the battery without having to dismantle the tank etc . As an alternative would I be better to simply put a DIN plug on to it and for the low power need for iPhone charging just stick it in the existing power socket? I have searched the forum but cannot find the answer. I have considered a fused multi outlet panel but there seems no where to mount it.

If you lift the tank panel and the side panel you can route a cable up to head stock real easy and there is a nice channel for a cable in the top of the air box.

The panels come off easily and all you need is the Torx driver (T25)which is under the seat and a size T30 for the front bolt on the tank panel...... Simples!

What's wrong with the 12v outlet up by the dash?
