Can someone explain the benefits of nRoute ?

Lets see -

you would use it for a laptop/pda in the car ?
you still need a GPS ? (- so thats 2 bits of kit and wires :mmmm )
you still need Mapsource installed ? ( - no benefits yet ? )

benefits - larger screen

that all i can think of :nenau.

Any other info / advice sought
 
Basically, it allows you to view your position (as derived from your GPSR) on your computer, using the same cartography that you have loaded in your computer for use with MapSource.

In the early days of MapSource (prior to about version 6), you could view your position in MapSource simply by hooking your GPSR up to your portable computer, and driving along. As MapSource evolved and became more complex (to cater to the needs of many different GPSRs and many different users, of which automotive users are just one small group), Garmin determined that users who want to see and track their position on a laptop, using information provided by a portable Garmin GPSR, would be better served with a dedicated application to do just that. Hence, nRoute.

Also, they make GPS's with no screen or calculation ability... just designed to plug into a laptop running N-Route...
