I just took out a 1200 for a spin, a lot more power than I thought. I didn't really realize the size of bike until I got on it outside and drove away. It looks thinner than it really is.

The Dealer does not have any Adventures, so I cannot test ride one. He can bring one in, if a buy it. He is pushing the 1200 as the lastest technology and the bike to have.

I do like the looks of the Adv.

What I am wondering, is, can the 1200 go anywhere that the Adv can. I mean rough roads, cart paths and so on.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but the 1150 looks better IMHO.

Don't you know anyone who can give you a go on thiers ?

As long as you have spokes not alloys, yes.

But not as far, smaller tank.

You'd have to be a seriously good offroader to ground out the suspension on the 12, but the Adv has a bit more to go if you are.

The adv also has a lower first gear as an option, so that might make a a difference.

The Adv's obviously heavier though, so the 12 would be easier to pick up :D

Servo brakes and the associated problems could happen on the adventure too though. And you can get a 12 without servos / ABS if you wish. Another thing to watch for is the branch guards getting bashed so that they foul the front brake lever / clutch.

I don't think any of the telelever bikes have enough suspension travel to cope with all offroad conditions - notice the new HP2 has conventional forks.

I think the only thing I wished for on the ride out that Spout mentioned was a lower first gear. That could just be inexperience making me want to go more slowly though :D
