Can you identify this part?

I was removing the beak on my 2002 non-ABS 1150 Adventure this afternoon, when this part...

...fell onto the wishbone (5p to show size).

It's clearly meant to fit onto a flange of some sort - I'm assuming it's a dust cap, but can't see anything obvious. The number moulded into it - S 40250 003 - doesn't come up with anything on Max BMW's Parts Fiche. It has a manufacturer's mark FTE on it.

Any ideas?

It's a cover for this part. The upper connector to keep the mud off of the bleed screw.
