Can you identify this R1200GS O-ring? / Baglux

OK, so I fitted a Baglux/Bagster tank cover to my 12GS yesterday - pukka piece of kit, very snug design, good colour match and mostly easy to fit although rather harder to fit correctly - however...

At the start of the process - removing the main seat (insert key, twist key forwards, push seat down, pull seat up, twist key again, curse, re-twist key and bop seat slightly until popping noise is heard of release) - I finally got the seat off, then to find a rubber O-ring sitting alone and unloved, just on top of the battery, not apparently "off" anything obvious.

The ring is between 3" and 4" in diameter, made out of 2mm round-section rubber; I could easily imagine it as the O-ring from a VentAxia or some sort of ventilation duct.

Can anyone identify it / its purpose, please?

Thanks!

Isn't it for retaining the rider handbook in its location just aft of the tank?

Could be! I keep my handbook in the luggage so had forgotten it lives under there. is that what the T-piece above the battery is for, then?

Not an o ring but

Its meant to hold the manual (I think) or your autocom on the metal brackets on the plastic vertical face just forward of the battery erminals and under your first finger in the picture. It came double upped and on the metal bracketry on mine to stop it falling off.

Excellent! Thanks both, I shall sop worrying about it now. :)

Now why didn't they put the 1150 battery in a sensible place like that. Oh, no. They had to go and hide it under the bloody tank.

That is 'THE O-RING of RUBBER'

you don't wanna mess with that....oh no....you'll be doooomed, i tells ya doooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmed!

Schtum is correct - it's for holding the riders handbook onto that silver T shaped bracket just above the battery. WHen I got my bike the chap at the dealer didn't even bother putting the book there as he said it was a stupid idea :)

So I guess you can reuse the bracket and strap to hold an autocom or whatever, perhaps.
