Hi.
Having installed Garmin Zumo 550 I am very happy with performance.
I now want to add USA mapping to the unit and also want to be able to plan US routes etc from my PC. Garmin say buy the USA City Navigator CD ROM install to PC then upload onto 4GB SD card (CD cost about £150).
Other people say buy mapping on SD card then download from unit to PC (SD mapping cost about £90). Anyone have actual experience that cheaper SD route would work or any other tips?

you can not upload USA maps bought on the SD card back to Mapsource for routeplanning.

As a tip: Try buying the full dvd in the states and have it shipped through a friend or something. Saves you half the price....

Have you considered MetroGuide which can be bought cheaply and make it routable with metrowizz/metrogold?

One of it's disadvantages of this combination is voice instructions on round-abouts, although, in the main, these are lacking in US. You'd have to use a non TTS voice as I don't think Metroguide would support that. Otherwise that would work very well.

No unlock code is required but beware buying Metroguide from eBay as they're usually copies, you could get the same for free if you were lacking in scruples and moral fibre.

Thanks Guys.
Will look into the metroguide / whizz / gold options??
Being a non-techie will prob end up getting USA sourced DVD.
