Nothing I do on my Mapsource will let me go from The Stelvio pass to Merano via the Passo di Gavia! Why?
Even the route tool takes me miles around.Even route avoidence seems to do nothing.Any ideas?

I take it that you've unchecked 'Seasonal road closures' and U-turns? I believe that sometimes Mapsource confuses hairpin bends for U-turns.

Is this the route your trying to get ?.
If it is ,you need to put in more route marks to get it to go the route you want.

Bumpkin.Yes mate i tried that too I think it is just playin sill beggers.

Cheers All.

This is the spot on the route that's giving you the trouble and where it needs the extra road points.

Yes thats got it thanks.I have had to add nearly 8 waypoints to get it to do that short streach!
Why is that?Even with two waypoints a very short distance apart Mapsource would not join the route up even when shortest distance was the selected routing preference?

No idea why , but I had the same problem trying to calculate your route till I put in the extra points.

Had a similar problem myself last year on a route I was planning and the extra mark points was the only way I could get around it.

I have had the same problem in the Alps. Mapsource does not want to use the small roads. I had to add a lot of intermediate waypoints to get the route I wanted. Once you are on Stelvio there is only one way to go anyway so another way out would be just plot a route to the bottom and then another route picking up from the other side.

Incidentally, I also found that tight Alpine roads can confuse the satnav. With many hairpin bends the satnav often thought I had U turned and was going back the way I came so a trip up Stelvio was accompanied by continuous "recalculating" and "do a U turn" messages. Eventually I turned it off so struggling to plot the route was a pointless excercise.

Yeah I noticed this the last time I was there.I think it all depends on how many Sats you have up and what your accuracy is as some of the roads run very close to each other vertically although there is a great difference vertically!
