:aidan Ok, as usual someone starts a thread and we go off topic:D
Robbie and Dirtydog both talking about paddling Canoes (thats the single blade type, a la Hiyawatha:blast .
Rob' has access to canoes, camping and a trailer.
DirtyDog has his own boat.and yours truely does a bit of coaching, paddling and wilderness tripping:augie :augie
So anyone else on the forum have experience of canoeing or kayaking ??
Who is interested in a couple of day trips and also a canoe camping weekend based at Monnington.
Does anyone have any canoes lying around or know of any??
Gerry H. organized a succesful weekend last year based at Whitney on Wye, and hopefully there will be another..................... :beerjug:
We could get our own canolittle canoe section and incidentally I have 4 miles of Worcester Birmingham canal outside my back door which it excellent for practicing and coaching and I have plenty of boat storage !!
Let me know the interest and we will get this going:thumb2

ive instructed for the guides up to 2* level and have a creek and a play/white water kayak with paddles (1 l/h and 1 r/h) buoyance aids and waterproofs in tosser sizes:thumb2 also maybe able to borrow some learner friendly ones.

Fred. I might be interested... although I'm not exactly local to you.

I've 3 kayaks... a 3 metre fun boat, a slalom boat and my Hunter K1. As I think you know, I used to race both sprint and long distance.
The trouble is I've no way of transporting my boats at the moment.

I've got

a necky manitou sport kayak for thrashing about on the lugg, which is 2 mins away:D :D
I can get access to at least a couple of canoes, with aids and pads, plus I think Tony (the site owner) has a number of the old dancers aswell

I will speak to him shortly about loaning the kit and getting a lift to a point upriver, it shouldn't be a problem as he is a top bloke :thumb

I'd just like to add that if you haven't done anything like this before then now would be a good time to jump in at the deep end

Canoes and Kayaks

We are the only country in the World that has, in days of 'yor referred to Kayaks as Canoes.
A Canoe, or Canadian Canoe, or Indian canoe is knelt in and powered by a single bladed paddle (and no you don't need to change sides) A kayak is what most folks think of as a canoe...............but you sit in it and use a double ended paddle.
My preference for the sort of paddling I have in mind are Canoes, but of course kayaks welcome. :thumb

I squashed one with my narrow boat once, they make a great crackling sound:thumb

At least that canoeist realises now that we weigh 20tons and they weigh 20lbs and if he throws his canoe in between the bank and the boat whilst we are mooring it gonna hurt. He assumed that his canoe would act as a fender:nono , and he was in such a hurry:eek: he couldn't walk the extra 30ft to clear water:tosser

Shep

Any of you doing the DW at easter??

I like the sound of this.
Will i get my hair wet? :ymca

I nearly bought another one the year before last. In my late teens / early 20's I used to be out every weekend either on the Dart or the Exe or sea canoeing in Lyme or Plymouth. I was watching them on the Barle the other day paddling from Tarr steps down and thought how good it still looked.

I only ever go canoeing/kayaking when on holiday, but would like to get more experience, anyone recommend anywhere for me and my eldest daughter to do this in the Coventry/Warks area?
Also looked at buying a 3 person kayak (polypropelene type) just for fun
Any recommendations?
