Canon ink chips

Going to need a set of ink cartridges real soon for a Pixma 4200. All the non-canon cartridges to buy warn that they do not have the chip on them, and this needs to be removed from my originals.

Does anyone have experience of this, and could tell me if it's easy, worth it, or is there another method??
