Can't get rid of Adware/Spyware...

have you updated spybot to latest v.1.3?

if you google netspry it brings up some other options including this

Im a newcomer to this colonic irrigation for PCs but mine sure needs it. kazaa, I Mesh and others have spread crap all over the place and my PC freezes and crashes several times a day.

Cut to the chase which de-lousing program is best (and free?) and where do i get it?

Fownload AdAare, Spybot Search & Destroy and Noadware (Google for d/l sites). Also make sure that your antivirus spftware is up to date. If you don't have any, immediately d/l AVG for free.

Then, disconnect from the internet.

Then if using Windows XP turn OFF the System Restore function.

Then run your anti-virus software.

Next run Spybot Search and Destroy, allowing it to 'kill' any problems it detects.

Next run AdAware. This may well pick up rubbish that Spybot misses.

Then run Noadware and allow it to kill off any garbage (this program really does get rid of crap on the system).

You'd do well to delete all your temporary internet files as well, 'cos I'm sure you've got lots of crap i that folder. If you're on broadband, set your Folder Size limit to around 250MB (in IE Tools|Internet Options|General will allow you to get rid of all your History, Temporary Files and also cookies. If you delete cookies, remember that you'll lose your automatic entry to some of your websites, so make sure that you know the login name and passwords that you use (they're different for all sites, aren't they????).

Then switch System Restore back on.

You *should* be junk free.

Mike, I found two last week on a friends PC their Norton was not working so I uninstalled it. Then downloaded AVG. This found lots of problems but could not repair two. Nothing could remove them but they were found. In the end as the friend did not want to lose all her data I started in DOS and deleted the files. In windows it was impossible to delete the files.

Good luck

Thanks for the thorough response - looks like I will have a busy time tonight (if I can keep the PC running long enough)

And broadband, Ireland? You must be joking! I simply put fatter string between the two cocoa tins when I want to download a big file....

Repoman........quite seriously, if i were in your shoes, i'd backup my emails and settings (use the files and setings wizard and select settings onlly) then reinstall windows from scratch...then start fresh with the first programme installed being your antivirus software, then zonealarm, then everything else.

I do this as a matter of course every 6 months or so and even with a fairly well maintained system, it's amazing how much quicker the machine runs.

I can only say that NoAdware seems to have done my PC no harm whatsoever.

I would also reccomend CCleaner from here http://www.ccleaner.com/. It's very good at removing all the weird bits of stuff that clogs up a PC.

Also RegistryMedic removes all those orphaned file references that clog up your system registry.
