Can't install stuff

Hope you boffins can help!

Over the last few months I've had a problem installing new programs. Just tried to install google earth and its happened again. I start the install program and it comes up with an "exception processing message" with loads of digits after it.

I can get it running and then I get a failure message stating "Error 1324 The path Start menu contains an invalid character".

Same thing happens when I try to update Mapsource and Itunes.

Any help gratefully received.

BTW I'm running Windows XP.

It would appear that your registry has an incorrect path for installation folders.

Do remember to backup the registry as described in the microsoft link before you start.
