cant slow a 1400 rpm tickover..

my single plug 1150 ticks over at 1400, i have mercury balance device but cant get it any slower, also it goes out of balance frequently...
any possibilities greatly recieved....

Quite possible a rusty or frayed throttle cable - especially if they are the originals.

Take a look before too long. One of mine frayed to the point where it stayed open at 2500 rpm. That made roundabouts interesting :eek:
 
As above -

Make sure of free play in the cables.
Turn the brass idle screws all the way in, then see how it idles.

If no improvement check the TPS reading.
 
have measured TPS value

the TPS is at .363v at rest, although when i gently roll the throttle on and off it returns to .373 so it is not fully seating. if i fully open and release the springs snap it back to .363 so there is some stiction somewhere.
One thing i have just noticed is that the cable to the left TB has issues in that the adjuster nut is below the attachment bracket, it appears that the cable outer is too long, or am i missing the obvious?
