Wife’s 2012 Audi A1, another car reversed into it causing dent and scratches on rear door and a slight dent on rear panel. Driver drove off so reported to police and insurance (reg number noted and witness name and address).
Anyway, company hired by insurance to sort have now said the car is beyond repair and quoted £4.5k to fix. Have said that replacement cost is £6.5k from Glass guide.

Contacting insurance tomorrow but anyone had experience of this?
Options so far are 1) keep car with dent 2) fix dent and keep car 3) accept write off value and get another car

get another quote .
That’s option 2 above. 14 year old car now and trade in would be about £4.5k so can see why company won’t pay to fix it.
Just wondering what insurance company will say tomorrow when she rings them.

If the car is usable and reliable, negotiate to take cash and keep the car. I'd keep the dent unless it was a very cheap repair. Bearing in mind the age, run it until it is no longer economic to keep on the road using the cash settlement. It will have a marker on its record so the used value will drop.
If the car is getting unreliable, negotiate to raise the write off value. Speak to the actual loss adjuster not someone in a call centre. Arm yourself with the dealer cost of a replacement, not the Glass trade price they will try to push.
