so I can make my own, can anybody advise what head of water the 1200 gs engine will pull at (say) 5000revs.

it doesn't actually pull any vacuum.

reason is that the cylinders are opposing each other with vacuum - and two opposing vacuums - or pressures cancel out.

effectively - if you use a light oil - the liquid will stay at the point you built it.

only if one cylinder is quite different do you see a large difference - say 12" .

i used 5m of clear 5mm bore tube - plenty of excess for movement.

Just had my first 600 mile service @ 840 mls and bike much smoother and I asked for a throttle balance check. I assume that valve clearances have also been adjusted.

I fascinated by balancing

Where can you buy 5m of tube- Halfords only sell 3m lenghths?

Im I correct in thinking that you should reduce the vacuum in the side that is high, or do you raise vacuum in side that is low?

(I gather that R1200GS has a splitter box on cables, so right hand side is not a slave )

Does the adjustment result in altered tickover?

Great Mills sell it by the length - (I think they've been taken over now), as did B&Q. Try most DIY shops . ;)

I wouldnt think it matters whether you adjust the high side or the low - one will increase engine speed, the other will reduce it.

Apparently, idle is adjusted automatically on the 1200 so no - it doesnt affect idle.

I hadnt realise you were talking of a single length of tube with each end connected to one cylinder. Where do you connect them? Is it to the small spigots that have rubber caps pushed over them? And where is the adjustment as such?

I made one out of 10mm clear tube from B&Q, with some smaller diameter rubber at the end to connect to the throttle bodies. After a bit of experiment I found that white spirit was the best liquid - oil tended to be a bit too viscous so less finesse, plus I didn't like the thought of a slug of water getting sucked in if one of the tubes comes off (at least white spirit will burn ? !)

Graham
