Carbon cylinderhead guards

Does anyone know where to get those carbon guard thingies like you get on the Boxer Cup replica?
I would imagine BMW would sell them at an extotionate price.

Do they actually offer much protection?

I've seen some of these after a crash. They offer protection for sure. Question is: will you leave them on looking trashed but still good enough for protection? Otherwise every minor drop will still cost €145...

Carbon fibre is wonderfully stiff and light but has crap impact resistance. My dad has worked with the stuff for years and now makes a comfortable living in retirement repairing £4000 carbon fibre fishing poles for people who make this startling discovery.
