Anyone know who stocks Castrol 20-50 SF. Mineral Oil. Just drawn a complete blank at Halfords in Stockton-on-Tees. In fact the guy looked at me like I had asked for a Chocolate Fireguard.
Thanks.

Same response in Halfords Stamford

If you are not bothered about the specific brand then Harley Dealers seem to be the best source of reasonable quality 20-50 bike engine oil, so I believe.:thumb2

Duckhams Q 20-50 at boyes store ( there,s one in Guisborough)....:thumb

As this is posted in the 1200GS section, should I presume that this oil is intended for a 1200GS?

This is what Castrol says:

Castrol Classic XL 20W-50 is a conventional multigrade engine oil of good all round performance, formulated with high quality mineral oils plus selected additives, ideally suited to older technology and classic car engines.

Castrol Classic XL 20W-50 is designed to meet the motor manufacturers' requirements for passenger cars and motorcycles running under normal service conditions, but excluding those equipped with catalytic converters.

The prime recommendation is for all pre-1980 petrol engined vehicles requiring a high quality product but with an older technology additive formulation.

... generally available at Halfrauds, but in their tiny motorcycle section

Maybe I was just born with a silver spoon in my mouth - but more likely that I really cant me arsed driving around looking oil at 1985 prices (or whatever) - I just buy the stuff at the dealers where the bike is serviced and get on with more pressing things in life!

ps - Im not having a go.

Halfords isn't cheap, but it is 4 miles away vs. nearest BMW dealer at 30 odd miles.

Try Busters motorcycles, I ordered 4ltrs from them last year, delivered within a few days.

I got some Motorex Legend 4T 20/50 engine oil (4 litre) (Stock no_OIA11032 - specifically made for BMWs) from Motorworks, which is also stocked by Hein Gericke (last time I was in the Northampton branch anyway). Four litres is £18.80 (from Motorworks)

Hi Bertie, unfortunatley Motrex Legend is Semi Synthetic and I want to follow both BMs and my Dealers advice of using 20-50 Mineral Oil until 10,000 k.

Sorry, didn't realise it was semi-synthetic, although I didn't start using it until 12,000 service..........

The motorex web site does not mention that it is semi synthetic i.e.

4-stroke engine oil for motorcycles with separate transmission and engine lubrication. The LEGEND series is best known for its high temperature and oxidation stability. – Just right for large-capacity engines and classic bikes.

Multigrade
High oil film thickness
Oxidation stability

Specification:
API CF/ SJ, SG, ACEA B3/ A3

Thanks Paul S - I didn't recall the container saying it was semi-synthetic, but I used it all so no longer have it to refer to. Motorworks don't say what it is either way, although they do say the Duckhams is a mineral oil.
