Cat plug on UK-spec 1100GS?

Hi all,
To get rid of the catalyser on my 1100GS I am looking into replacing my stock pipe with a UK-spec stock pipe, which has no cat. But I'm concerned about one thing: what kind of cat-code plug do UK-spec 1100GSs use? Or do they run without any cat-code plug at all?

My concern is that when I pulled the cat-code plug on my bike once before while I was using a Staintune pipe, the result was that the bike ran incredibly rich due to the default map the motronic reverted to. That's something I'd like to avoid if I switch to the UK-spec bike.

Coding plug

Beige - but you will need to fit a co potentiometer to replace the lambda sensor for mixture control.Set it between 2- 2.5% with engine at normal operating temp if your running with a stock pipe.If you fit a free flowing pipe such as a lazer system you will need to install the uprated chip (supplied with pipe) & pull the coding plug.Its important to fit the chip or power commander etc because these pipes will run with a weak mixture (hotter engine)

Thanks for the info, Leige. What exactly is a co-potentiometer and where would I get one? Is this fitted as a stock part for the UK-spec R1100GS?

The CO potentiometer is fitted as standard on UK 1100GS's that do not have a lambda probe in the exhaust.
It is located under the pillion seat on the rhs of the bike. It is adjusted via a flat-head screwdriver from here. Turning clockwise weakens the mixture, anti-clockwise richens it. Do NOT fiddle with this pot unless you have a CO monitor on the bike. You could destroy your engine by running it too lean.

Thanks Ferguscawley. Is the CO monitor something a dealer would have? If anyone can get the part number for the Co-potentiometer and beige cat plug, I'd much appreciate it. I'd like to figure out how much the pipe-swapping will cost me.

This is what you want.

No need to buy a cat code plug. Just put a jumper wire between terminals 5 and 6 of the cat code plug base.

Any dealer should have a CO monitor. Most good car garages will have one as well, as will all MOT centres. You can get the CO set up there no problem. Just make sure bike is hot and that you make tiny adjustments, wait 20 secs after each adjustment for things to settle down etc etc.

Remove seats - remove toolkit. Unbolt the 2 bolts that hold the rear luggage rack (alloy thingy) to the back of the bike - the pot mounts between the rear subframe and this luggage rack on the RHS of the bike. (If you look directly above the pillion footpeg (right hand side) on the underside of the subframe, you should see a little circular cut-out that allows you to slip a screwdriver through to adjust this pot.) You should see a cable with a 2-pin connector lying about there. Plug this in to the potentiometer. If I get a chance I'll try to take a picture or two and show you. Its very straightforward really.

No problem Jim - I was in the garage anyway replacing spark plugs on a friend's cbr250 - talk about small spaces - that thing is tiny !!

CBR250, what a jewel of a motor! I was thinking about getting a Hornet 250 -- same powerplant -- for commuting but ended up with a Honda Foresight for now. Very practical but not exactly exciting.
