Good morning, does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the CB500X, my father is very serious about buying one, and was just wondering how anyone has got on with one. They do look quite a nice machine, I was under the impression that it was the old engine but the salesman said it was a completely new engine, looking at power outputs it looks on paper to be quite a revvy machine, which, I don't know if it would suit my dad, he's more used to something with low down grunt, so all info would be greatly recieved :thumb

In a group "budget adv bike test" in MCN this month it came out top , to the surprise of the testers. They thought it would struggle to keep up with some of the other bikes but it showed a willing engine, a surprising turn of speed and they really liked it.

Why dont you let him buy one, then when he has it go round and have a cup of tea and admire it. I recon he is old enough to make his own decisions.

If he wants/prefers something low revving, ain't that covered by Honda's very own NC700x?

If you have a smooth throttle hand and change gear it doesnt have to be revvy. Its a four stroke honda not a two stroke 125 with a power valve. It looks a nice bike. I also like that 700, if I had an 80 mile commute that would be my tool of choice.

As above - I used to use a CB500 for commuting work, albeit one of the older versions, it was a fantastic bike so reliable, economical, good handling and had a 200+ range..... But it was one that was built outside Japan and whilst the finish was OK it was not up to the standards of the first bikes which were from Japan . I think these new 500s are built outside Japan......

The 'Completely' new engine I understand is actually just another refinement of the original, which would be it's third incarnation now, no bad thing as these engines have a super reputation.

But if he wants a lazy, easy ride, with super economy, low down torque, good handling and great looks then either the NC700 S or X would fit the bill. I bought one, primarily for the wife to use to commute with, but I also like riding it as it is just a fun bike...... It is currently built in Japan and has a good finish to it as a result. I think they are slightly more expensive, but haggle hard there are good deals out there..

Just my experience FYI.

I used to use one of the old ones as well. Still keep one in the garage as a spare in case the GS ever lets me down. They were fantastic, I sold one on at 117,000 miles, the keeper has a mere 67,000. Neither ever let me down and they were great fun to ride. Rev well but not peaky. I know the new one's a different bike, but Honda's abilities to build this sort of mid sized commuter bike is unequalled. They were reviewed in one of the glossy bike mages recently and were very highly rated. If I was in the market for a 500cc bike I'd have one in a heartbeat.

Cheers for all the reply's I will pass the info on, looks like this bike could just be what he's after and if it's not i could offer him a ridiculous low price and bag myself a cheap replacement for my 800gs :clap
