dont panic dont panic
can any one help my CD ROM
has packed in

it is a CREATIVE 52XMX
MODEL NUMBER CD5233E

will any CD ROM other make
of CD ROM fit
my unit and will the power
cable plugs be the
same configuation as
will the host interface plug ?:banghead:

Terry, just bin your old one and get down to your local PC builders, £25'ish should get you a new one and, yes the data, power & audio plugs will be the same.
Piece of whatsit to fit, just remove your cover and then the 4 screws that hold the drive in place, job done in 15 minutes max.

The only thing you need to ensure is that pin 1 on the data ribbon (red coloured strand on the cable) is in the correct place... normally next to the power plug.

Top Tip

Although I'm no computer buff (however my bruvver is...), I wouldn't advise buying another Creative labs CD-R as they seem very unreliable. I know of 3 people including myself who have had them and they have all failed (mine after 14 months.

Like Paul says (who is also a computer buff) its easy to fit.

Have Fun

Terry. Unless you've already got one (or I've got the end of a wrong stick) why not replace it with a CD-RW ? They aren't that expensive these days and incredibly useful if only for backup purposes.

Cheers

Dick
