Am travelling up to the UK next month with the wife car and doggies. Does anyone know if there are discounts available without going through the eurotunnel main site.It does seem very expensive compared to the ferries but then again it is more convenient i.e. with the pets. :thumb2

P.S. Anyone want any fags bringing over

Heck shouldnt a said that :blast

I got my crossing in August for free - had to spend about £2000 in Tesco to get enough Clubcard points, mind.

I have never managed to track any reliable (repeat) discounts down.

Now and again one pops up but then vanishes a week or a few days later. The only reliable way is to book well in advance, I think.

Still, they are much cheaper than they were.

Just now, booked a return crossing for October; even that far in advance the tunnel was twice the price of the ferry for a bike and two peeps - pays yer money, makes yer choice (the ferry for me 'cos I'm a tight git :)).

I use the tunnel quite often but never see any special offers. It is expensive but you can work the system. If you are going for a while book 2 tickets for 24 hour return. One in your name - one in your name one in a variation of your name. For expample Mr John Smith = Mr Smith John . Next book one from the country website like France or Belgium and the other via the UK site - even better if you can do it through 2 different computers (different IP addresses) so you book in Euro on one and GBP on the other. Finally use 2 different credit cards ideally one in your name one ir your partner/wife's name (you need both cards with you when you travel.

You will only book a 24 hour return so book the return leg for the cheapest - you won't be using it anyway. Do the same for the way back and just don't use the return leg.
It's not something Eurotunnel like you doing but I've done it several times and never had a problem - the trick is not using the exact same booking name and exact same credit cards :thumb

They have wised-up to this cunning plan.... Number plate recognition catches several people out.... Don't ask me how I know... :augie

Yup , that's as maybe but if I do it 10 times and get rumbled once I am still quids in :) and in any case the chance of getting spotted must be miniscule. I'm on foreign plates anyway so I doubt that their jusidiction stretches across Europe to all 27 member states ;)

PS How do you know ? No number plate is required to be entered when booking...

If you travel 3/4 times throught he tunnel then frequent traveller is viable. You have to pay up front for 10 single tickets at £39 each. You can then use them without supplements on any day of the year as long as you travel outward after 4pm and return before 2pm. Travelling outside these times only adds about £20.

As long as you book the individual trips using the original credit card used for upfront payment they do not seem to check.

Has worked for me for the past couple of years.:clap

I got done in the car.

British plates.

They had a big crackdown.... For a while they had bods walking up and down asking why, if you were only going for a day, the vehicle was laden down like Napoleon marching on Moscow.

Give it a whirl..... Still by the time someone has paid for the fuel to drive from Spain (mit hounds, leave the bloody things behind) a few quid extra on the Shuttle shouldn't be too painful... :D

Have done the same myself - a very good way to get cheap tunnel travel if you are a frequent user.

What's the time limit on the use of the "frequent travellers" tickets.

If you're using a genuine card, a genuine name and just deciding that you don't want to use one leg your return ticket, have you actually done anything illegal? I can imagine them having the right to stop you using their service, but otherwise :nenau

You enter into a contract, buying a ticket to go out at a time on a specific time, and return at another. Against this, the other party agrees to discount the ticket price.

You then break the contract, unilateraly

Not that it bothers me much. :D

People did much the same thing with cheap packet holidays. Taking the flights out and back but not staying in the hotels. Again, not that it bothers me one jot.

Twelve months if I remember correctly.

It is a year. If the ten tickets are not used then they die off on day 366.

I had a look at it when ChasMill first mentioned it a year or so ago. It's OK providing you want to stop in northern France the night before your departure, or pay the suplement. Going out from the UK a night early is not so bad.

To be honest, the long weekend tickets (most of my jaunts this year are short hops) were so cheap and flexible the saving was close to zero by the time I had added in the ineviatble hotel bills. I also avoided wedging up over £300 in advance.

Its the same on the mainland railway. We dont follow you off the train and keep you under surveilance and then drag you back and make you use the return portion....... :D
