Charity ride

Hi All,
Just found a link on the Cannon motorrad dealership page, for Essex Air Ambulance,two guy's from Essex, Doug and Chris are to ride a gs 1150 and 1200 adventure on midsumer's day, from land's End to John O'groat's and to do it in 24hr's.
They are being suported by our the Essex dealer Cannon's of Braintree and friend's from Link motor cycle training of chelmsford.

Made it

We got home yesterday afternoon.

What a ride. It took 7 hours to ride down to Lands End, we took some pictures and had some diner and then it was time to set off. It tipped down with rain across Bodmin Moor as we rode through a thunder storm. It was then dry all the way up to the Grampian mountains, although I stayed wet and cold. Near Aviemore on th A9 I got a lesson in how heavy the rain in Scotland can be. I have never seen anything like it, let alone been on the road in those conditions. My bike was aquaplaning, the rain was stinging me through my all season kit and trying to wash my feet off the pegs. Visibility was no more than 25m. It stopped by the time I got to Inverness, which is where the fog/Scotch mist started. Tight, winding roads, no visibility, cold and wet. I was pretty miserable by the time we reached John O Groats, and it took a long hot shower to start recovering. A beer, burger and Jack Daniels cheered me up and I slept very well (as you would after 25 hours of riding and almost no sleep). The following day we got some photographs as the fog had lifted, and I got to see how beautiful the Highlands are. I had one of the best rides of my life down to Loch Ness and then it rained most of the way down to Newcastle, where we arrived about 10.30pm and this time a bath and a pizza warmed me up. The ride home from Newcastle seemed quite short after all of that, albeit a boring one down the A1(M).
I met Shep, Steptoe et al en-route, and enjoyed a beer and a whiskey with them for as long as I could stay awake.

Thanks to those that sponsored us and the well wishers . I would love to go back to Scotland to explore for a week or so, and will do so next year.
I think my next long rideout will be from Lowestoft in the East to St Davids in the West, about 450 miles. I'll let you know when, just in case anyone wants to come along, although this one will be just for fun.
