When i was looking for a C2 last year a few people on here recomended a German company which i think could of been moto de???

They were the cheapest by quite a bit but i can't seem to find them on the net now. Does anyone have a link? I've searched the old threads but can't seem to find reference to them.

cheap lids

If youve got a cheap head, buy a cheap helmet.

Unfortunately I've got a small head and only the most expensive helmets fit (currently have £1200 worth on top of the wardrobe) properly hence my eagerness to get the best deal.

I'm after an arai VX3 for trail riding:thumb

I've just treated myself to a 'Caberg Justissmo' for £120 delivered, I think that's a fair price, but surely 'cheap' is a relative term, relative to what a person can afford:nenau

I'd say cheap is relative to what helmets cost. A grands worth of carbon lid is not cheap, even is Bill Gates buys it. A cheap lid is just that - cheap.
what you can afford, and what you choose to afford, is a completely different matter.

Thanks for the link rover, I'll have a look when the powers that be let me look at shopping sites at lunch time:rolleyes:

BTW when I put cheap in the title I meant discounted cheap, (the company in question were doing C2's for £240 as opposed to £300 in the UK)
I'd like to see what the person who reckons a Schuberth C2 is cheap wears:eek:

Hi Pigglet,

If you are after a cheap C2 in small then I've got a spanking new one that I've never worn - Got the wrong size - In silver size 54 - 55. Got a thread in the for sale section. - I'm open to offers!

I see this cheap head cheap lid debate on many sites.

Aren't helmets made to a standard which all must achieve? So in effect you pay for quality of product, lightness, features, colours etc. the basic "standard" should be the same? Or have I missed something.

No, you're spot on.

Some helmets far exceed those standards though......

The standard doesn't cover things like noise, ease of use, weight or comfort either.

There have been a fair few serious and independent tests that show pretty well that the cost of a helmet doesn't always reflect the protection it gives when it meets the tarmac with your bonce inside it......some of the 'budget' brands do very well and some models for £100 have beaten the £400 race rep big name models.

An awful lot of it is hype, bullshit and fashion ;)

Yup, agree with you there Fanum. I paid £280 for my System 5 which i thought felt cheap and plasticky compared to a £150 shoei but it was the best fitting flip up I tried (after bedding in). After trying a Tour X and finding it was the best fitting lid i've ever worn I have determined i have an Arai shaped head. I've had lots of different lids from different manufacturers but none have come close to being as solid on my head as the tour-X. It's only in the last couple of years i have been able to afford more than £150 on a helmet but since then i have found that some of the more expensive lids i've tried have felt more comfortable and lighter, my AGV titech bought when going through my power ranger phase is really nice.

The moto de link takes me to the place i was thinking of but at 500 euros they're no cheaper than in the Uk now:(

Will try the other link at lunch time:thumb

Cheap helmets.

I rece ntly tried a calburg? as this had a flip down sun visor and was about
£160.00 a lot cheaper than the shuberth I had been considering. But this felt so light and flimsy(caborg), (normal lid BMW 4), and I thought no way but, It was ACU approved for compition use. I was amazed but whist reading the Beano oops,( MCN) in the local super market they had an artical ridiculing ACU approved standards for helmets. I would certainly not think of racing in one of these and then I saw on Flea bay ACU stickers (Looked real) for 50P.
I know helmet design has improved nowdays with new matrials comming along but some of these do not seem designed for high speed use.

Nope they are not all the same. The helmet testing standards are a minimum pass / fail. There is no indication from the Euro standards that any exceed them however if you read the manufacturers blurb and look at the web sites you'll soon see the difference.

A good example of this is the penetration test. A sharp implement is fired at the top of the helmet in a defined location once. If the helmet prevents penetration to the skull then it passes. The better quality helmets will pass this test more than once in succesion and also pass it if the test is performed elsewhere on the shell. Cheap helmets will only prevent one attack and then only on one location.

Similarly quality helmets will be produced in more shell sizes which reduces the size and so the weight of the helmet. In addition they will use different shaped heads for differing markets, improving fit.

Obviously you also pay money for advertising if your helmet is worn by GP racers and you'll also pay extra for fancy designer paint jobs and high quality finishes. You have to make the choice on the best value for you that balances out safety / comfort / price / style.

One thing for sure, any is better than none, and some one is making money from it, Sorry before the reply's come in that's two.:beerjug:
