Cheapest Ohlins

i once done 1601 miles in an afternoon.

:bow Well I had to stick to speed limits (ahem) - whereas you have a special get out of jail card I believe:augie , and you've got one of those sweet 1200's with a 500 litre tank too! I have to hand it too you though - I couldn't have ridden another mile, whereas you clearly could :)

wow and there i was thinking you were a complete muppet.

ps 1600 miles in one whole day? :censor:

I do tend to jump off the deep end sometimes myself , sorry :toungincheek. Me and a mate did it for an Iron Butt 'bun burner gold' Drove to Cornwall Friday night from Basingstoke, got up at 5 and went from Mullion down on the Lizard, through Helston to Penzance then up to near John O'Groats, had a pasty thurned round and came straight back. 22 1/2 hours. 3 hours sleep then back on the bike back to Southampton. I wouldn't reccommend it!

If I remember correctly, Ewan and Charley used Ohlins on their 2big trips and on both occasions, the rear ohlins collapsed.
So stick to the roads or carry a spare.

I'll watch the DVD's again to see where they occured.

Yea - I remember that, and they had to use the photographers one didn't they? I have to say though that was in the extreem heat of the desert wasn't it. When I went to Timbuktu, the rough road to the ferry is 120 miles of corregations and sand pits and by the end my shock sounded like a old bloke with no teeth and a mouth full of saliva chewing a wine gum, but at least it survived.

I think I might do a little off roading when I'm away, but mostly gravel maybe the salt flats but not too much sand (hopefully - I flippin HATE sand) so hopefully the shocks won't get to battered. I don't take too much luggage either - bulky but light (though still a significant weight - especially carrying spare tyres) so that will help I hope too

I agree that it's strange how both theirs failed, but then they had Ohlins on the 1150s too (didn't they?) and they were OK. I guess you could get failures with anything

I'll have a look round at the NEC and see what's on offer there too before I decide I reckon.

It's just I felt the Ohlins on an R1100S a mate had at a track day and they just felt like a magic carpet, but then again, I'm sure other shocks would impress too. It's a difficult decision to make if you can't try before you buy - you just have to take others opinions into consideration I guess

you could always come try mine out, you could whilst your here try my r1100s too:thumb

its had a few changes made to make it 'fruity'
