I'm not a satnav person and usually just read a map and go, whilst traveling I just put map in tank bag for referance but for my up and coming Alps trip I thought I may get one for fuel and campsite locations and if I overcook my trip and just need to get to the ferry asap.
I was thinking of just a cheap car one that I would just slot into the map case on my tankbag and plug into the aux socket when needed.

So firstly is it a daft idea (tankbag/aux) or will it work ?

Secondly, I have seen 2 with Euro maps , Navman m400 £90, and Garmin nuvi215 £80

Cheers in advance
Dave.

If you get one without the ability to plot specific routes following the roads you want to ride then, IMHO, you'll be missing out on one of the great benefits of using a sat nav on a bike.

Not sure of the capabilities of the Navman but the Nuvi 215 is only a point to point device, i.e. you put in a destination and it decides how you get there given a few broad variables. Not that useful for recreational bike use but OK for just getting to point B.

Most TomToms can do routes, uper end Garmin Nuvis and of course the pricey Zumos. Some of the PDA style models will also. If you have a smart phone you might want to consider TomTom Navigator or Garmin mobile for that.
